videostudio10 vs. Nerovision7 (rendering time)

Post by alfc76 »

i've used videostudio 10 and nero vision 7

videostudio is much better on editing

but when i finally burn to dvd (or create a folder on disk) nero 7 is much more faster than videostudio 10 (15-20 minutes against 1-2 hours !!!)

i.e.: a 6 minutes video, without menus or editing stuffs
it takes 3 minutes on nero, 20 (!!) on video studio

i'm wrong with something?

i have acquired the dv tape directly into DVD format (mpg2) with videostudio

thanks

It will render faster if you know how to enable Smart Rendering in UVS. It takes long because your video is been re-rendered.

For Smart Rendering, check step 46 in http://www.jonesgroup.net/media/vsonec.htm and step 11 in http://www.jonesgroup.net/media/vstwo.htm

You can check the Ulead website and http://www.jonesgroup.net/media/tutoriallist.htm for some good tutorials.

When you look at all the forum posts, you will see that Smart Rendering, or more accurately the lack of it, crops up time and again.

I can only assume that programs such as Nero and others work on the assumption, quite sensible to my minds, that the user wishes to minimise encoding time and unecessary re-encoding.

It would surely be better if Ulead took such an approach, so that the default would be for the program to set output settings so as to enable Smart Rendering.

Even after using VS in various forms for some years, I still feel I am battling with the program to make it Smart Render - and the term begins to sound like an oxymoron.

I fully understand...

I still love UVS10+ for its efficiency in making DVD menus and its simplicity in format conversion, when the "options labyrinth" is under control...

I would beg to disagree on that one. My reading is that the thread is principally about the Smart Render function in VS, and as such a legitimate VS forum topic. There was no mention of different formats, just the puzzling rendering speed difference between VS and Nero.

MMMMM.... Very interest HTCHIEN

I see not one, but TWO references to non ulead products in this thread. How come my post on PINNACLE STUDIO 10.7 got moderated. You told me that mentioning other programs was not allowed!!

No need to answer... you and I both know why... I'm just playin' with ya. Of course I don't expect this post to be here for very long either! :D

Hi Neon,

If you want an apologize from me, then you will get one.

I apologize for moderating your posts on Pinnacle products.

Happy now?

However, this is still a forum for Ulead products only. Please, if you guys put the focus on Ulead products I would be very appreciated.

Thanks and regards,

Why do these procedures differ from the Recomended procedure given at the top of this forum?

These procedures tell you to render and produce a DV.AVI file after editting, but the recomended procedure tells you to render to a MPEG2 file.

Hi

Just my pennies worth

Do not get confused between rendering (creating a video file) and burning a dvd.

The OP compared Nero with VS.

Burning with VS is as easy as any other, provided the project properties are the same as the video file.

The OP¡¦s times seem to indicate a render within the burner module, indicating to me that his properties do not match.
This will render the original mpeg to a temp file to burn the disc.(this takes time)(this is not necessary)

(i.e.: a 6 minutes video, without menus or editing stuffs
it takes 3 minutes on nero, 20 (!!) on video studio)

alfc76

What are the properties of your video file????????????
Did you start from a new project, matched the properties.
