MF5 trial - selecting new project won't work

Post by HiDef »

I have version 5.0.0189.0 trial of MF5 on my Windows XP Home SP2 PC and cannot use it. I managed to burn a DVD the first time I installed the program, but now when I go to New Project - DVD, the program disappears then reappears a minute later. Does anyone know what's causing this problem? Thanks in advance for any info.

Try re-installing the program.

Trial reset?

first time I installed the program
If the trial period has expired, uninstall and new install will not help. The trial remains expired (it would be too easy to avoid purchase).

I only installed the program last week, and it has a 30 day trial period. The problem first happened 5 hours after I first installed the program. I have also tried re-installing with no luck.

Hi,
when I go to New Project - DVD
Your description is not clear, because you could be talking about MF or the MF launcher:
1. Going from the MF Launcher to the MF "Add media, step 1/3" screen?
2. *After* choosing New Project - DVD in the MF Start screen and pressing Next?

Both "go to" the "MF Add media" screen, but big difference.

Nr.1 could be what I described (trial expired).
EDIT: Sorry I got things mixed up... I thought the launcher does start after the trial expires.

Nr.1 and Nr.2 MF loads any codecs that you've installed in the system. Maybe you have a disc loaded or some other software active that was not active before.

I suggest deleting the entire folder (location depends on your account name and other settings that you might have modified):
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory

If that doesn't help, you'll have to diagnose the problem. Something like the Process Monitor and similar tools from http://www.sysinternals.com/ are useful to see what is happening.
NOTE: Sysinternals is now owned by MS, so use at your own risk :P

I think a red line is coming....:)

BTW, the re-appearing issue is been reported by other users before and it's not related with the trial period (if it is, you will not even see the program launcher).

I think there is something conflicted in the system to cause the issue. However I cannot figure out why because I need to see the computer in personal to identify the conflict. Well, if anyone can offer me a 2-way ticket to your country it's another story. :P

H.T.,

I don't understand what you mean with "red line".
After reading this thread again, I believe you misunderstood my suggestion (and I think I know why)...

Like you said, it is very difficult to diagnose such a problem without being there.
So I suggested the Process Monitor and other tools to help HiDef diagnose the problem, like to see what is running and gets loaded on his system when the window disappears.

I go to the MF5 Launcher on desktop, then click new project, which brings up the following window: Image

I then click OK and MF5 closes for about a minute then the first screen comes back again.

I'll try fully deleting that folder tonight and look into Process Monitor. Thanks

Ok, I tried fully uninstalling it and deleted that folder. I reinstalled but still no luck, same problem keeps occuring. I installed process monitor, but it lists hundreds of DMFLauncher.exe entries and am not sure how to decipher it.

It would be very difficult to write a description about exactly what to do. To summarize, you can filter the output shown and just show the files accessed, for example to see if certain files are found in the wrong place, or certain video codecs are being loaded. But this is complicated if you're unfamiliar with this stuff.

In your case, the MF main program is not being launched, or it ends after starting, returning you to the launcher.

So first make sure you are Administrator, and then start MF itself (DVDMF.exe), not the MF launcher, and take it from there, in case you have a launcher or permission problem...

Now MF should show the splash screen with the blue progress meter and then the start screen. After choosing New project - DVD, it normally goes to step 1 of 3 (with the clip preview area), where you add clips.

If it doesn't start, then something is messed up:
Anything you did on the system from the time it worked to when it stopped working could be important. Examples: changing the date or time, adding other software, "cleaning" the system with registry tools, etc.

Clicking DVDMF.exe doesn't work either. No windows at all open up - I just get the hourglass icon for a split second and then nothing.

As for the time between the program first working and then not working at all, the only thing I did was burning a DVD using the program. After it had finished, I wanted to go back and burn it again with a higher bitrate, but couldn't get back into the program.

I've created a Process Monitor Logfile where I've used a filter for DVDMF related processes only. I could upload this, as long as it is safe for me (and the security of my PC) to do so :D

Can anyone help? The trial expires soon, and won't be able to troubleshoot this any further...

Did you at least check the FAQ and all the info on this board to uninstall, or did you just do a normal uninstall?

http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=11923
(Steps 1 to 8 in the same order shown)

You say you only did a project and did not change anything in Windows, so your problem can't be DEP (Windows data execution protection).

Hi,

The re-appearing issue usually caused by a codec conflict in the system. Can you list the codec packs installed in your system?

You can use the AVICodec tool to list all the codec packs in your system.

http://avicodec.duby.info/

After you install AVICodec, start it and check the Codecs and Filters tab to know the codec packs in your system.
