Webpages are Firefox unfriendly

Post by scottb721 »

PI made webpages, web albums too, don't show in Firefox correctly, or at all.

Here's a problem page made using PI WebAlbum,

Is this the fault of PI of FF ?

Thanks

Fault of both, FF and PI..

I'm using Firefox 2.0 and all I get is a blank page. I then viewed the source and found that you are using Framesets. Firefox does not like Frames and will not display them properly if at all. PI has had a problem with web pages displaying correctly in Firefox.

Now the tough decision, do you want to limit your website being viewed by those that only use IE? If so then PI will due, if not then use PI to do the cosmetics, (photos, drawings, etc..), but use an Web page editor (Dreamweaver, Notepad, etc..) to create your web page documents (HTML, XHTML, XML...)

Tough call when web album only takes 10secs to do a page.

You must take into account that Firefox and Internet Explorer might at a glance look the same but they are different. One of the reasons why Firefox is so popular is that various things don't work with firefox such as certain malicious scripts.

As an example of the difference between the two browsers take a look at my Home Page (OK it's not very exciting) but with Internet Explorer you will notice acros the top of the page a series of drop down menus.
These do not function with firefox. (Doesn't cause me any bother as my website wasn't really made for public viewing anyway.)

Oh please Steve. Don't do yourself an injustice, you're page is great.
I know what you mean, my pages are mainly for family who think Firefox is a superb 80's movie.

Why would you build a website with a photo editing tool? Of course it doesn't work properly...

You're much better off building your site with a free tool like JAlbum than with PhotoImpact, Photoshop, etc.

I do all my photo editing in PhotoImpact, but my website is 100% produced by JAlbum (and 100% W3C HTML 4.01 compliant - works on all browsers on all OSes).

In PhotoImpact, before you save the web page, you can select File->Preview in Browser->Firefox to know if it works in FF.

If you did not see FireFox available in the Preview Browser List, you can add it into the list via File->Preview in Browser->Edit Browser List.

For PI Web Album, I will check with Ulead.

Just to see what PI could do in creating a webpage or website, I produced one using PI-12. So far viewing it in Firefox 2.0 has posed no problems. I also used PhotoExplorer 8.6 to create the photo album pages. Click on the WWW button to view it. Not the best, I only spent a few hours on it.

I have used PhotoExplorer 8.6 to whip up a couple of hundred images to be viewed on my web site in a couple of minutes. Works great in IE as well as FF, although the output is slightly different depending on the browser.

To do my normal web pages, I use a WYSIWYG editor and prepare my images, graphics etc. with PI for it.
