VS 9 SE Constantly Crashing

Post by adaminc »

Hello all,

I recently acquired the ADSTech DVD Xpress DX2 USB capture device from a friend of mine, and I installed the supplied software (capwiz) and Ulead Video Studio 9 SE, it wasnt working right so I went to the website, and there was an update, so I downloaded and installed it.

Now my problem is, I run the application, and the menu comes up with the two choices, VideoStudio Editor or Movie Wizard, but after I click on either of those, I get the following error

The instruction at "0x034a415b" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The Memory could not be "written"

the value "0x034a415b" is always the same, I tried the fix that people have used for Memory could not be "read", by upp'ing my page file size, but it didnt work, anyone have any idea's on whats going on? I wanted to email tech support, but since I can get into the application to get my serial number, i'm stuck.

There could be a number of reasons for this error, hardware related (faulty memory, faulty hard disk) or software like a faulty installation or incompatibility with other programs. Follow the instructions given here http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8959 and provide the necessary details. Run a memory checking program and do a checkdisk on your HDD's to eliminate hardware causes.

I have the same problem, with completely different environment so that was not really an answer ...

Videostudio 9.0 SE
HP dv5234us
XP Pro
LightScribe DVD RW
Centrino duo T2300E
1.5Gb/120Gb

Well, I had this same problem with my hardware, as you can see from my system spec's, different to yours and the OP's. Turned out to be a faulty memory stick. What sort of answer did you expect?

So what is the answer :?: What if anything have you tried to correct this :?: If you have not investigated any of the suggestions, then how would you know that it is not :?:

Since the error message clearly states that it has a problem writing to a memory address, I would start by checking my RAM. Check to see that none of the memory modules have become loose. Even though with most of the newer sockets having clips to hold the module, this is still possible. Then I would check to see if one of the modules may be failing. This can be done using a free program found here:

Hi adaminc

Read the Knowledge Base

http://www.explorecommerce.com/members/ ... iteid=1231

indicates that ADS is not supported by vs9?????

Try a clean install for vs 9 (installation:2. clean reinstallation.)

Check all your drivers, especially the video card driver, for updates. Of course, also install the latest and greatest Capwiz/ADS drivers. It is amazing how bugs in older driver software can cause strange crashes in Video Studio.

Also note that Video Studio support for ADS Instant DVD2 capture box has been sporadic, at best. I usually captured with CapWiz and then edited with Video Studio.

Why the first jump to hardware as the source? It is more likely a program error with runaway code or accessing memory it has not been allocated. Likely, something has been hard-coded/non-standard.

BTW, memory is self-adjusting/self-correcting -- certainly on any name brand PC going out this fall.

Adamic -- as I understand it, the version of VS9 SE which comes with the ADS device has been tweaked by that company especially to work with that card. The general version of VS9 would not do so. However, applying a patch to it has probably upset the original architecture of the tweaked program, making it no longer stable.

We also recommend that you use capwiz to capture, and only do the editing in VS...

Oh, People, I fixed it (at least on my computer)

I REALLY hope this helps someone else, because I have been in the depths of frustration for 3 days!

Adstech can't help, and Ulead needs the serial number, which we can't access... OMG

Quite by accident I found a solution. I hope it works for you guys. I have Windows XP Home.

Go to My Computer
Open
File
Properties
Advanced tab
Performance settings tab
Data Execution Prevention
I had selected "Turn on for all except those I select"

NOTE: The only one I had selected was Hijack this, so it must've been something they told me to do when we were looking for a problem some time back. I have not had ANY difficulty w any other .exe files except Ulead VideoStudio, so Windows must've thought it was a virus.

I clicked the Add button
Navigated to Program Files, Ulead, Videostudio.exe (Whatever the name of the exe file is)
When I added it, I went back to the Video Studio shortcut, clicked and it OPENED!!!!! Woooooooweee!

I'd like to add that Adstech was lightning fast in replying to my questions, at least, whereas Ulead never once bothered to answer FOUR pleas for help.

Good Luck.

Sorry, I was excited

I sent the msg to all of you. Sorry if that is offensive.

I just can't believe I figured out how to make something work, for once! :o

Please forgive my enthusiasm.

You are forgiven  We did have this as a possible solution prior though.

Never mind, you worked it out by yourself and can be proud of this. What's even more, you came here to share it with the rest, bravo :D

I wish that would be done more often. Good on you and enjoy your activities with VS.
