Bought 9 to 10 upgrade - what do I download?

Post by willydeluxe »

Having loved the VS10 Trial I have just paid for the Upgrade.
In the confirmation e-mail there's a whole load of download links.

What i want to know is - can I download the VS10 full version and use my new key with that, or will I have to continue to install 9, then the upgrade to 10?

I am a frequent "formatter" and re-installer and would like to keep things simple.

No, what you will download is the full version. The only difference with the upgrade is that you have enter 2 keys at the installation. The key you received in the e-mail is an "upgrade key". So in the installation you gonna enter the "upgrade key" then they will ask you to enter the "full version key" (your VS9 key).

So no need to install the previous version.

I'm afraid I'm more confused than before, but perhaps 'cos I didn't explain myself :)

There are four Full Versions listed on the confirmation mail I received:
full version (VideoStudio 10 Plus Upgrade - English)
full version (VideoStudio 10 Content Pack - English)
full version (Bonus Pack - English)
full version (2006 X'mas Giveaway - MediaOneGallery)

In theory the one I should download is the first one - I am upgrading after all. So to install VS10 anew I would have to install VS9 then the 10 upgrade?
And which key would I enter?

What I tried to express was: can I download and install a complete 'Standalone' (non-upgrade) version of VS10 so that I can forget about VS9?
And if I can, which one on the list is the 'standalone' version?

I am not normally this dim.

The "upgrade version is the same as the full version and, No you cannot download a full version because you ordered and paid for (I presume) an upgrade. The only difference between an upgrade and the full version is the fact that you need to have a qualifying product to be able to install the upgrade. If you do not have the serial number/activation key of the qualifying product, you will not be able to install the upgrade. If the qualifying product is installed on your system, the installer will find it and the upgrade installs without inputting the qualifying key. The full version will install regardless, that's why it is more expensive. The upgrade is avaiable to previous users and is reduced in price for that reason.

To come back to your list of downloads, you will need to download and install the upgrade (do not unlock your TBYB version with the supplied key, it may cause more trouble than the saved download is worth) plus the Content pack. The full version bonus and the xmas giveaway are not required for the normal operation but may be handy to have. I expect these to contain further media and menu templates etc.

Ok, I'm almost with you!
But what's the TBYB version of which you speak?

I tried to unlock the trial version with the upgrade key and it wanted me to go to the internet to validate it: big problem as I don't have internet on that machine.

Should I uninstall the 10 trial and run the 10 upgrade?

Sorry about the geek speak :? TBYB is your "Try Before You Buy" version.

As I said before, I do not recommend unlocking that trial with your key. Much better to uninstall the trial, download the upgrades and install these.
