I thought that as I started this topic I should let you know where I "am at" now.
A week ago, after reading that my installation of "every codec you would ever want" could be the cuprit of my problem and that an uninstall may not remove them completely I decided to reformat and re-install everything (except those codecs and some other software which I hadn't used for some time) . I tried to crash VS10+ using the same 'routine' which caused it to crash before (ie select (the same) video clips with autoplay on and 'run' down the list of those available clicking on one after the other). VS10+ remained STABLE so I am hoping that I will have no further problems but after reading that others have experienced the same problems I won't be surprised if it occurs again.
One thing I noticed that some appear to be defending VS10+ blaming problems on other software and/or hardware configurations. I find this quite disturbing as (I would have thought that) software should be stable regardless of hardware etc OR warnings be on the packaging stating that problems may be experienced with some hardware especially video cards as I am sure I have noticed before in the past with some software.
Also why does there appear to be problems with VS10+ and not previous versions? Doesn't this say something?
It is not nice to spend one's hard earned money, take it home with high expectations and have problems.
I realise that regardless of how much beta testing is done there will always be users who have problems. I used to work in an IT department developing software, testing it and also working at times on the help desk and that was what it was for - to help users understand how to use software and to 'discover' where bugs exist.

John,
Thank you for the update and glad to see that you have now solved your problem. many of these issues can be prevented by creating a
Video Editing profile
Unfortunatley people will ignore warning and bow to the temptation to tinker in the quest to add more functionality. I often repair broken computers for friends and family and often find the cause is the temptation to download all manner of paraphenalia off the internet.
I then spend several hours using various removal tools and techniques to get their broken computer up and running again and tell them what caused the problem and advise them not to install things such as limewire
kazaa and the like.
A few months (and sometimes weeks) later they come back to me to say "It's broken again" and upon inspection there are those things I told them to avoid, limewire, kazaa etc. back on their computer.

And if you think it is only VS10 which has these problems, think again. I have been on this Board since VS7 first appeared 4 or 5 years ago. And believe me, there have been more than enough people with problems with each successive version.
And lest you think this is only a Ulead thing, then I would invite you to visit the Forums for some of the other competing software out there. Not one of them is perfect, and there are any number of people who have any number of problems with successive versions of these various packages.
But glad you have - provisionally!
- joined the merry band of those of us who, for reasons unknown, have found successive versions of VS, including VS10, to be stable from the start!!!

I can relate to that very well especially with some older people and even my son. Sometimes it is links they click on which installs software which mucks things up, or young children who press a few buttons and end up with things such as "my video display is upside down". Thank goodness for Windows XP RESTORE.
Not one of them is perfect, and ...
Sorry to be so critical of VS10+ and I'm sure there are other applications around which don't run as intended.
It is just that I CANNOT remember ever having so much problem with an application (including previous versions of VS) in the past.
Also I have lost count of the number of times when VS10+ failed and just DISAPPEARED from my screen. Not even "an error has occurred, do you want to send a report to Microsoft?"
Maybe I will be lucky, maybe that's the wrong word, and I will not have any more problems. I certainly hope so as I am just about to capture around 8 hours of video taken last October whilst overseas and edit it down to a watchable lengths (one DVD for each of the 3 countries I visited).
What more can I say except "watch this space", or listen for an almighty scream in the next few weeks.
Happy Christmas to all readers.

Video Studio 10 Plus not worth owning
You could get a copy of AVID the free version and see if that also crashes your system. Being in the Computer Repair field the first thing I would check is your memory or CPU, my last computer was a 2.4 Ghz with a Gig of RAM and it would take 6 minutes to render 1 min of Video, the processor works at 100% rendering files on a 2.4 Ghz I don't think it is the software. You might want to get a free copy of FreshDiagnose and check you system for problems. Let me know.

Hi Clark,
Not sure if you were 'replying' to me (jparnold) or someone else who has posted with their problems.
I have NO problems rendering and I am happy with the speed of rendering with my PC. Anyway I downloaded and run FreshDiagnose but wasn't sure if there were any problems when I viewed the information it displayed. What should I be looking for within the displays?
Also I really don't want to learn another video editing application. If VS10+ continues to give problems I will revert to VS9 (and just be annoyed that I spent $A70 on software which doesn't 'deliver').

If you see an auto-reply after you submit a tech support form to Ulead, usually they will get back to you in 3 days or less.
If you did not see the auto-reply mail, then your submit is lost, did not go to Ulead, or your mail box has filtered out Ulead mail as spam so Ulead cannot reach you.
In such case you might need to use another e-mail account to submit your question or take an international call from Hong Kong to Ulead Taiwan for help.
got them, NO replies, NOW Ulead website states NO such User by this email address. ODD I am posting now but it took a WEEK of trying o get back online here to do this.
ATTENTION
Ulead video studio 6 burns DVD, has NEVER failed. Ver 10+ fails, buring anytime now. It did burn 1 dvd ONLY 1, it always burned VCD no problems.
BUT that has nothing to do with the Ulead website unable to log me in.
It also has no bearring ON NOT getting a password email reminder, that I never, EVER gotten yet.
EXPECT ULEAD TEK folks to answer my URGENT EMAILS MUCH FASTER THAN WEEKS LATER.
I DEMANDED ONLINE CHAT HELP BE MADE AVAILABLE TO RESOLVE THESE ISSUES "LIVE CHAT"
Ulead OFFER No REPLIES.

Did you hear me SCREAM? Probably not as I didn't but felt like it.
Yes VS10+ is crashing again!
After a reformat and re-install just a 'bare-bones' system (Windows + SP2, drivers, XP Office, Paint Shop Pro 9, Mozilla Firefox, Eudora 7, Canon Label Print, Veritas RecordNow CD/DVD burning app, VS9 and VS10+ NOTHING ELSE). And it crashed doing EXACTLY what I did before when it always crashed.
I CHALLENGE ANYone to carry out the following and reply if they too experience a crash or not
Start VS10+
Select Video Editor (if you have the initial screen to select between video editor and wizard).
No need to load a project (although it doesn't matter).
While in edit mode and 'video' library select the icon to open a folder full of short video clips.
Turn ON PREVIEW and AUTOPLAY
Select any video clip (left mouse click)
Select another one
Select another one
(you are just looking for a suitable clip)
Do this maybe 10 or 12 times or more without returning even selecting video clips which you may have previously selected (it doesn't seem to matter so long as you have autoplay and preview ON and keep selecting a different clip and do this many times
Well did it crash?
Please let me know.

JP,
I done just as you instructed. However I gave up after 25. As you see I'm connected to the internet, which is only available under my normal profile, not the one I use to really edit video. It has a lot less services running, and my processor doesn't work has hard. I could not get VS to crash. I even tried different formats, MPEG, DV, different folders, no crash.
Sorry but I couldn't make it happen..

I have run CHKDSK, I have run a complete check for virus's, I have run a AddAware, I can't think of any other test I can do. I have all the latest drivers installed for my hardware.
I am beginning to think that I must have a crappy version (see below for reason why)
I did have a lend of a friend's copy and installed it and could not reproduce the crashing but am loath to continue using it as I did not purchase that particular copy that is why I think that I have a crappy copy but why should they be different? except of mine is an academic version but why should that matter? I find it all a bit interesting, what about you?
