Background music for multiple menus (VS8)

Post by gordonwd »

I have 6 videos on a menu template that only has 4 thumbnails, so it requires 2 main menu pages. I am not using chapter menus. I would like to have background music for both menu pages. When I click on the background music icon, I see an option to "Select b/g music for this menu", which works OK, but then when I go to the next menu page I have to select music for that menu as well. Even if I choose the same music clip, it starts over when you go to the 2nd page.

What I noticed is that under the music icon there is a selection something like "Select b/g music for all menus", but that selection is grayed out. This seems to be what I want -- the same music continuously playing while in the menus -- but I can't figure why it's grayed.

Anyone know how this works, or if I'm doing something wrong here?

on a dvd, you can't get the music to play "continuously" when switching between menus. When you go to a new menu, the background music for that menu will start from the beginning.

I don't know why that selection is greyed out, but it would still re-start everytime you switched menus...

Why spread your main menu over two pages - if you only have 6 videos why not have all 6 on one menu page then your one piece of music will play over all 6 - you can do quite a lot of customising of the DVD menus so you can very easily create the menu you require - you don't have to stick to the basics presented in UVS.

I'll give that a try. I haven't look at the customization options, but if they are not what I'm looking for I can always use PhotoImpact to modify the existing template. That would be easier than having to navigate multiple menus on the DVD player.

If you just need a menu with six selections on it you do not need to worry about using Photo Impact - just select any menu page with 6 selections on it - if you don't like the picture that comes with that then use the option at the bottom to add any of your own images or patterns to create a very personal menu.

Yeah -- I would second that.

Working with menus in PhotoImpact didn't have the result I expected, though this is still an ongoing project with me.

If you try to create chapters, you will be able to select the same background music for all the menus. However, it will not satisfy your requirement (as mine). When you switch to another menu, the music will start again from the beginning.

I have the same problem as yours and more than 6 clips, therefore, I cannot use only 1 principal menu.

I am afraid that the functionality we are looking for, is not available in the product.
