Changing pictures in one menu page (chapter activated)

Post by mltwitz »

I saw the following on a retail DVD menu and want to recreate it:

As you are scrolling up or down through the chapters (5 per page), the chapter title becomes highlighted and a still picture from the chapter appears in a frame above the chapter selection menu. Once a chapter is highlighted and you press the selection button on the remote the chapter plays.

Now, I know this could be done using multiple copies of one and the same chapter menu page, with only the picture changed and a different chapter highlighting scheme, but I have about 25 chapters per DVD (15 DVDs total) so this would be a bit tedious.

Yes, but be aware that there might be a slight pause while the picture changes.

Look at the tutorial: "Roll-over Effects using Auto-Activating Buttons"

It sounds like a SmartScene Menu. although with a lot of work you can create one in DVD workshop you may find that
VideoStudio or MovieFactory will be quicker and easier.
Here's and example of one I created

When you click on the links (down the right side of the menu) the picture in the placeholder on the left of the screen changes to that link.

In fact it is a case of having several (almost) identical menu pages and by clicking the link (on the right) it activates another menu page that resembles the one your already looking at.
