VS10 - Unable to create a video file as PAL DVD 5.1 format

Post by Alex01 »

I have a small VS10 VSP project which contains a small AVI file of about 20 minutes. Before I burn it into a DVD, I try to create a video file file first via the "Share | create a video file" function.
From the drop down list of "Create a video file" option, after I select the "PAL DVD (5.1)" format, it starts to do the renderning. But after 1 or 2 seconds, the rendering hangs at 0%, and after about 1 minute, VS10 closes itself down completely. Basically the rendering process fails.

Could anyone please help me with this problem as I want to turn the AVI video captured from a camcorder into a PAL DVD with 5.1 sound.

Thanks

Have you tried rendering a different video file to establish if the fault is in the VideoStudio program or if you have a faulty avi file.
best one's to use to test if VideoStudio is working correctly will be the sample videos that are included with VideoStudio.

Yes, I had. I was able to create and render the same project into a PAL MPEG2 file, and then burn it into a DVD successfully.

I just wonder, has anyone tried to create a video file in "PAL DVD (5.1)" format, and has the rendering problem??

Can we assume you have VS10+ -- the plus sign is important as the non-plus vanilla version of VS10 does not allow creation of 5.1 files...

Yes, I'm using VS10+ (VS10 Plus).

Has anyone had the same problem in creating a video file with PAL DVD (5.1) format??

I originally had trouble when I set my project to 5.1 and tried to render. Kept getting an error "failed to open the MPEG encoder".

On Steve's (sjj) advice I uninstalled VS10+ using his link to a recomended uninstall procedure and then re-installed from scratch.

It then worked fine and I have since made 3 successful PAL DVD 5.1 films.

I know it's not the same symptoms as your getting but a uninstall/install might be worth a try.

I had uninstalled vs10+ via the Control Panel's "add/remove program" function, and reinstalled vs10+. But the same problem persists.

May be I'm not unistalling vs10+ correctly. Could you or anyone please let me know the "link" or the proper unistallation procedure for vs10+.

Thanks

I had uninstalled and reinstalled vs10+ a few time last night...but the problem still persists. I'm now getting a different error message, "unable to convert video".

Could anyone please help me with this problem.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled VS10+ again.

Now, I'm getting the following error message when trying to create a video file as "PAL DVD (5.1)" format. Basically the rendering process failed.

The error message is "Failed to encode the vodeo [2000:1:1]".

Does anyone have any more ideas on how to fix this problem??

Thanks

Those errors usually relate to a problem with the video file and not the program.

Thanks for your feedbacks.

What baffles me is with the same input source AVI file, I can create a video file with "PAL DVD 4:3" format successfully but not "PAL DVD 5.1" format.

In fact I had tried using other working AVI source file, and still could not creat a "PAL DVD 5.1" video file.

Does anyone know whether there are any specific video/project settings or requirements for creating a "PAL DVD 5.1" video file??

I jump back in somewhat belatedly, but why are you trying to create a DVD using 5.1 Dolby? Presumably your original DV/AVI was only dual channel stereo audio. But have you done anything in the editing phase to add the channels necessary to make an effective 5.1 sound track? If not, then VS in effect has nothing to create such a sound track...

Just reading through this thread I would have to go with Ken's observation.
I don't think VS10+ has the capability of creating a 5:1 soundtrack.
I think it can preserve manipulate and ultimately output an existing one but it can't create 5:1 out of a normal stereo sound track.
Then again I may be wrong!
