VS10 - Unable to create a video file as PAL DVD 5.1 format
I have a small VS10 VSP project which contains a small AVI file of about 20 minutes. Before I burn it into a DVD, I try to create a video file file first via the "Share | create a video file" function.
From the drop down list of "Create a video file" option, after I select the "PAL DVD (5.1)" format, it starts to do the renderning. But after 1 or 2 seconds, the rendering hangs at 0%, and after about 1 minute, VS10 closes itself down completely. Basically the rendering process fails.
Could anyone please help me with this problem as I want to turn the AVI video captured from a camcorder into a PAL DVD with 5.1 sound.
Thanks

I originally had trouble when I set my project to 5.1 and tried to render. Kept getting an error "failed to open the MPEG encoder".
On Steve's (sjj) advice I uninstalled VS10+ using his link to a recomended uninstall procedure and then re-installed from scratch.
It then worked fine and I have since made 3 successful PAL DVD 5.1 films.
I know it's not the same symptoms as your getting but a uninstall/install might be worth a try.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled VS10+ again.
Now, I'm getting the following error message when trying to create a video file as "PAL DVD (5.1)" format. Basically the rendering process failed.
The error message is "Failed to encode the vodeo [2000:1:1]".
Does anyone have any more ideas on how to fix this problem??
Thanks

Thanks for your feedbacks.
What baffles me is with the same input source AVI file, I can create a video file with "PAL DVD 4:3" format successfully but not "PAL DVD 5.1" format.
In fact I had tried using other working AVI source file, and still could not creat a "PAL DVD 5.1" video file.
Does anyone know whether there are any specific video/project settings or requirements for creating a "PAL DVD 5.1" video file??

I jump back in somewhat belatedly, but why are you trying to create a DVD using 5.1 Dolby? Presumably your original DV/AVI was only dual channel stereo audio. But have you done anything in the editing phase to add the channels necessary to make an effective 5.1 sound track? If not, then VS in effect has nothing to create such a sound track...

Just reading through this thread I would have to go with Ken's observation.
I don't think VS10+ has the capability of creating a 5:1 soundtrack.
I think it can preserve manipulate and ultimately output an existing one but it can't create 5:1 out of a normal stereo sound track.
Then again I may be wrong!
