Hi Ksweett, welcome to the forums,
Yes you can, however I must ask, Do you mean a full uncompressed AVI, which uses 65 gig per hour of video? OR are meaning a DV (avi), 13 gig per hour? Then there are several other highly compressed formats (DivX, XviD, MPEG-4) that are contained in an AVI wrapper.
What format are your video clips? If they are DV (avi) then just go to Share>Create Video File, and select Same as First video clip, or if your Project Properties match your video properties (which they should) select Same as Project settings.

Do you mean you are going to save it as an avi on a DVD 'DATA' disk or do you intend to create a DVD that will play in a standalone DVD player - like the films you buy from the shops?ksweett wrote:.....It needs to be able to eventually fit onto one DVD
If so you need to save the video in DVD compatible MPEG2 format and not avi.
The VideoStudio equivalant of xvid or divx is MPEG4 a highly compressed format and good for sharing stuff over the internet.
You can use DixX with videoStudio if you view this tutorial by sood_aj

Hi ksweett,
Please provide us with your Project Properties settings and your Created Video File properties. Your Project Properties settings can be found in File|Project Properties, then look in the Project Template Properties window of the dialog box that pops up and copy and paste all of the setting information to your post reply.
Do the same for the video file properties by clicking on the Share Step, then click on Create Video File, and in the pop-up box that comes up, select the same template you used to create your video file and a Create Video File dialog box will pop up. Go to the Properties: window within that dialog box and copy and paste all of the settings to your post reply.
This way, we can see more about what's going on with your processess.

Have you tried burning your DivX file(s) to a CD? That was their original attraction -- fitting a movie, or a substantial part of one, on a CD as opposed to a DVD. That is my only experience to date as I have not had DivX files of sufficient size to warrant burning on a DVD. I can't think of why they might not work though.
Some older DivX DVD players were also, I think, restricted to DivX files produced with the DivX 5 codec, but I thought this had been corrected in more recent updates of the DivX 6 codecs. It certainly seems to be, at least with the pro version/Create Bundle...
