(I accidentally posted this in the wrong forum. This copy is now posted in the correct (MediaPro) forum. I apologize to the board sysops for the error.)
I am currently working with a trial version of MSP8 and like the interface and capabilities. Unfortunately, I am experiencing freqent crashes that cause the program to issue an veditor error message (vis basic) or simply quit back to the desktop. I have been following the board and have tried many solutions discussed. I ultimately when for a clean install of XP Pro, but the problem persists.
Before I make a purchase investement, I would like to feel confident that I can get the program running in a stable fashion. Any comments or suggestions would be much appriciated!
Pentium 4 @ 3.0 ghz
2 gigs memory
clean 300 gig data drive
ATI chipset (latest)
XP Pro (fully updated)
Thx in adv. for any help.

Thanks for the reply, but...
Thanks for your reply. As I mentioned, I did a clean install of XP Pro to a new hard disk and then reinstalled MSP8, but am getting the exact same problem as before. I am certain that the problem involves some unholy interaction but am at a loss to uncover the problem. Hopefully someone will have some useful ideas.
Best,
Marc

The original release of MSP 8 had a number of flaws for many people, all these were redressed in SP1. Unfortunately, SP1 cannot be applied to the trial version.
You may have to take the plunge and get the full version without being able to verify that it will work on your system.
There have not been many reports of problems with MSP8 after the release of SP1.

Re: SP-1 Fix?
Try this link http://www.ulead.com/tech/msp/msp_ftp.htm where you will also find a download link to the SP1 release notes.hersch wrote:Dear Mr. Oz,
I thank you for your reply. Is there a document that describes the fixes implemented by SP-1? If so, I could get some idea if the fixes address the issues I am observing. This would provide at least some assurance that my $400+/- would not be wasted.
Thx,
Marc
At the same time, I would follow Steve's advice and download a fresh copy of the TBYB version.

I too was having a lot of crashes and problems with MSP8, I turned to the support forum for help and followed the recomendations from devil and other members but i'm afraid nothing seemed to help.
Then recently someone posted that they had changed the settings in Control Panel, System, Advanced, Performence Settings, and selected "Adjust for best performence" and all was ok. I followed this advice and hey presto everything is great. So before you go to all the trouble of reinstalling stuff just try it and let me know how you got on.......... it worked for me.
MSP8 is now running like a dream and I have not had one crash or hic up since then, and i use this program every day at work and throw some reall heavy duty editing it's way........ I am now a happy camper, AT LAST.
Yippee!

Very good advice Video_guy and I'm glad that worked for you. Many of us here run a dedicated video editing machine, tweaked for the task. In cases like that, I don't think your approach would have any effect. Than again, we tweak our systems in order not to have this kind of problem in the first place.
Let's see (and keep our fingers crossed) if this is helping the OP.
