Version 7 or 8 SE Basic ... which is best to load?

Post by kapaa-papa »

I just purchased a new iLink card with a TI chipset, the package came with VideoStudio 8 SE Basic. However, I also have a copy VideoStudio ver 7 so I'm not sure which is better to load.

My fear is that 8 se basic is just skin and bones, enough to water my mouth but then force me into spending more money to upgrade. I'm thinking ver 7, although older and yet it does not say basic or se, will have more bells and whistles. I simply want to start editing my camcorder videos for the first time, nothing fancy, just starting out.

Please, any suggestions??

Welcome to the forum!

You're right - VS 8SE will not allow you to burn to DVD, whilst your full VS7 will.

Perhaps you should install VS7, and see if you like it.

You do have the option to download the free 30 day trial "try before you buy" (TBYB) version of VS10 (a 135Mb download from Ulead.com) Compared with the full version it doesn't have many flash animation overlays, frame overlays and DVD menu templates, but it's otherwise fully functional and will allow you to burn to DVD.

You can have both programs loaded simultaneously on your pc.

Beware - although VS10 can open a VS7 project file, the reverse is not true. Therefore if you get hooked on the extra features of VS10, you might find yourself forking out $60 for the upgrade.

The previous full boxed retail VS9 is available on eBay for about $30, which you might consider.
