MF 5 slide show won't create DVD or DVD folder

Post by cgaski »

I attempted to create a slide show using jpg, gif and wav files

1. After nearly two hours rendering of a slide show I get the message "Unable to create DVD". (Video DVD creation works correctly).

2. The operation was repeated with the objective of creating a DVD folder. After a further two hours the operation apparently completed successfully but the designated folder was empty.

3. I attempted to contact support but when I click on the appropriate registered application on the support page nothing happens. Is there any other way of contacting support?

4. The length of the audio file apparently overrides the display time settings. (I cannot be certain of this because I am unable to create a DVD). Can this be corrected and if so how?

4. The slide show help files are inadequate. As just one example there is no indication of whether a picture loaded into the slide show show will fill the screen of the selected TV standard or, if this not the case, what should the size of the picture should be be?

I have the same problem, but no error message.

I ran a slides show production for 2 hours, after it sat at 17% for 40 minutes I canceled it and rebooted.

I then made sure that nothing else was running on the computer and then i restarted the same project.
After 8 hours and less than 50% completion I canceled the job!!!

When creating DVD Slideshows, it usually failed with corrupted (or uncompatible) source files (audio or image), can you list the properties of those source files?

If the audio files are MP3, I would suggest to convert them to WAV files before you use them in the slideshows.

If you wish to contact Ulead Tech Support, you can try the following page.

In the US:

In Hong Kong (Chinese):

Hope this helps.

I went back and created the slideshow if mf4. it took almost 2 hours.

O, also in mf5 i was using the batch mode.

I have now updated my mf5 with service patch 1, and tried the same project, it created the previously attempted batch job in about 4 hours.

To compare mf4 and mf5, I created the slideshow again in mf5 the way I had created it in mf4. With the patch it did the job in about 45 minutes!

Can anybody help?

In October this year I purchased DVD MovieFactory 5.0 as an upgrade to Movie
Factory 3.0.

Registration details in Appendix 1

I installed the upgrade which apparently functioned well so I uninstalled and deleted MovieFactory 3.0 together with the its documentation. I later found whoever that the slide show function would not work. I sent a message to support via the Web form.

The reply is appended in Appendix 2
I followed instructions in this reply but was unable to re-install because I no longer had any details of 3.0.

I reported this via the support form.

The reply is appended in Appendix 3

This was obviously unhelpful and I subsequently sent three further requests for support none of which received any reply.

In desperation I rang Ulead in California, (I am in Hong Kong), last Monday and after queuing for 15 minutes spoke to someone who said he would ensure that a reply was sent to my request for support.

Nothing has happened.

Can anybody help?

David

Kindly remove MovieFactory 5 in the Add/remove programs. After removing the program, go to this location and delete all folders: "C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5.0" "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory\5.0" "C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USERNAME]\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory\5.0" "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\DVD" *** Click on "START > RUN...." and type in REGEDIT and press enter (you may not find the following keys after uninstalling the software but just to be sure, check them). Locate the following registry keys and delete them by "right-click > delete". HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVDMovieFactory\5.0HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory\5.0 Once deleted, restart the computer, reinstall the product then apply the DMF5 SP1 update: http://www.ulead.com/tech/dmf/dmf_ftp.htm ***

Editing the registry could cause system-wide problems if critical keys are
removed. Make sure you delete only what is mentioned and if you are not sure how to do this, skip this part. Thank You

Did you completely remove MF5 as instructed and re-installed it after rebooting?

What I think happened is this: The uninstall of MF3 also deleted some files needed for MF5. Reinstallation or a repair might even fix this.

Heinz,

Many thanks for your response.

The problem is I cannot re-install. The installation process asks for the registration key for version 3 which I no longer have.

I posted the details here because I cannot get any response Ulead.

Thanks again for your response,

David

I'm afraid the response you are hoping for is not going to come. You will need the serial number of MF3 to install the upgrade. If you have lost that, too bad, nobody can help with that. Did you at least register your copy of MF3 with ULEAD? I have all my different copies of ULEAD software registered with them. All my serial numbers are stored on their web site in my account. If you have done the same, you can get your serial number there.

My copy of version 3 was registered with Ulead but the registration information on their website disappeared when I registered version 5.

Everything was working OK in version 5 except the slide show until support told me to uninstall it. Since then I can't get any response from anybody at Ulead.

If what you say is correct then I shall just have to write off the money I paid for both version 3 and version 5 and try and find another application. Like you I'm on the opposite side of the planet from Ulead so there is nothing I can do to get my money back.

It seems a strange way to do business...

I don't know what happened that your registration info disappeared. That's not what normally happens. Here is my detail:

As you can see from that, all my registered products, 3 pages of it, is still there, going back to 2001.

Heinz,

Sorry, lost the text in the previous post which shows my equivalent page to the one you posted.

Maybe Ulead won't provide support for my upgrade because they want me to buy a full version 5 which I'm not going to do.

From the Ulead programmes you list I guess you are pretty knowledgeable on the subject of html applications. Could you recommend another application that will do the sort of thing that Moviefactory will do?

Sorry to disappoint but I have thus far only used ULEAD products. No idea what would be as good as MF5 ( I use MF 5 plus) or my previous product, MF 4 disk creator.

I'm sure there will be someone around who has used different programs also.

David,

It is possible that you simply registered MF3 under a different account than the other products. The account is not checked when you order the upgrade, just the number you type in.

Anyway, hope the PM helps... check your inbox.

Henry,

You are a star!

If you ever come to Hong Kong I will buy you a meal!

The information you sent me enabled me to re-install Moviefactory 5. I haven't had time yet to check whether the original problem with the slide show has been fixed because that will take a bit of time and I wanted to thank you first.

I simply don't understand the attitude of Ulead support. It would have been easy for them to provide me with the information that you sent me instead of which they completely ignored all my requests for support.

Does anybody know if this is their usual behaviour?

I doubt if I'll ever buy any more of their products - I can't expect you to help me out every time I've got a problem!

Thanks again,

David
