I have both Videostudio 9 & 10 and they both make a troublesome noise thru PC Speakers when I select pause during capture.
When I select play the audio from the Panasoic Mini DV camcorder via firewire comes in clear.
When I select stop, there is no noise.
Just on pause the PC makes a continuous noise.
Any ideas how to fix or where to start looking?
Noise on pause during capture
Moderator: Ken Berry
Is it a sort of buzzing noise?
I've found VS does not control my JVC camcorder very well, and makes that noise when the camcorder is paused with the VS controls.
This happened once when I was capturing directly to mpeg2 when doing some tests. The frame buffer overan, and VS paused the camcorder for quite a while as the buffer was flushed. I then found out I had to run a head cleaning tape, as the camcorder started to produce bad (noisy video) results. Therefore I believe that the pause is damaging to the heads - it sounds like the tape is oscillating.
By contrast, other video editing programs I've tried, including a pretty basic one by Intervideo, WinDV Creator Plus, didn't give this problem, and controlled my camcorder perfectly.
When I capture from my camcorder with VS, I make sure to use the camcorders own controls.

Buzzing Noise on Capture Pause
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, buzzing, kind of like a jack hammer buzzing - but, still does that when I use (new Panasonic PV-GS 300) camcoder controls.
Did not do it on old Sharp Viewcam.
You have me worried about it damaging heads.
But VS is capturing without buzz once in play/capture mode - sound only when I pause, and just thru PC speakers.
If I mute WAV in PC volume controls it does not come out PC Speakers.
My PC is only a few months old, XP professional, nvadia video card, new sound card and with other video software, like Pinnacle Studio 10 - there is no problem.
I like VS for capture because you can use full screen mode during capture.
