I have about 20 media clips in the overlay track at the end of a video project for a slide show.
In edit, I cannot make the clips appear longer than 3 seconds.
How can I make them longer?
overlay clips longer than 3 seconds?

Raygo,
Do you have Ripple Editing invoked? If so you will have to disable it to change the duration for the clips. You can also go to Preferences and set the default setting for images, to the time that you want, then insert them.
I just tried this with VS9, and managed to insert 20 images, at the end of the video. I set the image duration to 10 secs each. No problems. Like I stated the Ripple Editing may affect this.

Try setting the last image to 5 secs (or whatever) and see if it will allow it. It may be that it will not move the clips to the right if you try with the first or furthest to the left.
If that does not work, then delete all 20 of these media clips. Then go to Preferences and set the Default duration to the duration that you want. Now go to your image clips, and insert them, all at once or one at a time. It should use the duration you set in Preferences.

overlay
No go..
had to delete and start over.. Maybe since I saved the project it became locked in or something similar since ripple was off.
[tried both last and 1st clips]..
Works ok now that I started over which brings up a final question.:
I noticed that I had put my slideshow[ 20 pixs] in the overlay even though it was AFTER the end of the timeline video clips.
Is there any advantage/disadvantage in inserting your slideshow in the video timeline vrs the overlay timeline assuming it is after your final video clips?

The major one is that you could insert any transition(s) you want between the photos in the timeline, whereas you can't use transitions per se in the overlay tracks. Using a variety of transitions in a slideshow can add touches of interest to what might easily become a little tedious...
I think that most people in any case would do their slideshows in the timeline rather than the overlay tracks.
