There must be a time out for inactivity in the forum because I went to submit this the first time and I lost it and had to relog anyway here again.
When using CD&DVD Picture show everything appears to complete fine. When I go to burn the DVD I am able to select the correct drive at the top under drives, but in Options every time I try to select the DVD drive letter and click OK, the option reverts back to my cd drive and the second Required/Available remains in red. I have selected record to disc. I have checked the dvd in the drive and it is good. I use SI Sandra and the Nero Info tool.
I have not the foggiest idea of what I am doing wrong, I have tried the help menus and the forums and neither has any corrective suggestions that I have found.
Anything that you can do to help me correct this problem so that I can create simple DVDs is appreciated. By the way it is a simple DVD no transitions, no audio and is 4.23 (4.54)GB out of 4.38(4.70) GB available and indicators remain in blue. Thanks for your time, sincerely

This problem is often associated with SE (Special Edition) versions of programs that only burn VCD discs to a CD Burner.
Do you have the full versions of these programs?
Because you appear to have Nero you could instead burn to a hard drive folder. This creates a complete copy of the DVD on your hard drive which you can then play with suitable software such as
PowerDVD, Nero Showtime, Ulead DVD Player 2.0, Intervideo WinDVD 7.0 and so on.
You can then use Nero (or other suitable software) to burn the hard drive folder onto a DVD.

As far as I know both DVD Movie Factory 4 and CD & DVD PictureShow 4 are the full versions. I have both boxes and neither says they are a limited version. I may have made a mistake. It is Movie Factory 4 that will not go beyond assembling the DVD. I have it saved in a Movie Factory 4 temp file under a program specific file type which indicates to me that only Movie Factory 4 can use it. I would prefer to get this software working since that is what it is supposed to do rather than using another package to correct the problem.
I also noticed that I neglected to identify the CD & DVD problem in my initial note. I will reserve that for the correct forum after I find out how to use the Movie Factory software to its intended completion.
Thank you for your time. mn

Same as above
I found the problem, which is no problem. I have two burners one is the Plextor 708UF. Both Ulead programs have problems with it in that Movie Factory 4.0 does not recognize a DVD in the burner and CD & Movie Picture Show does not recognize it at all. I changed to my Sony burner and no problems with either programs. I do not understand, but at least everything works fine with one of the burners.

I believe the Plextor one is a USB external burner.
Have you checked Plextor for updated firmware?
