DVcheck.dll

Post by Grainne_C »

Hiya all. I'm having problems with my VideoStudio version 6.0...yes, I know it is an old version.

Basically, my computer won't open the programme although it has worked numerous times in the past. I click on the icon, wait a couple of minutes and then the 'Ulead has encountered a problem' screen comes up asking if I want to notify Microsoft...when I read what the report contains it doesn't give me any clues as to why the programme doesn't want to function -it's all just technical goblygook.

I am unable to remove the programme via the 'add/remove programmes' function in Control Panel (if i do this the install Ulead screen comes up, I try to follow through but the licence/agreement page is blank and then it asks me for my registered name but doesn't show the serial number like it does for install and then it just runs me in a loop from the licence page back to registered name page and no way of getting out of it except to cancel completely) so I did the only other thing I could think of...I went into the programmes folder and deleted the Ulead folder.

I got out the original CD and tried to reinstall everything - the driver and the programme. When I do this it proceeds as usual although I noticed that this time I received an error message which said that access was denied to a file called 'dvcheck.dll'. I followed through with the rest of the process and when I tried to open VS it went back to the Microsoft error report message.

I've searched on my computer and can't find any dvcheck.dll file. I have found it on a website to download but don't know where I should put it on the computer?

Anyone have any ideas please?

You would place dvcheck.dll in the Windows/system32 folder.
If it fails to cure the problem then please view:
Manuals and FAQ for older Ulead Products
and also
Re-Installation of Ulead Products - however you will need to search for the appropriate entries - shown in the table for more recent versions.

Thanks for your help. I'll follow up on those links tmrw. I've tried reinstalling and haven't gotten that dll message again but I hope that the dll file is the key to fixing the issue.

Someone actually told me that recently installing Spybot could have been the trigger to the problem (that it may be blocking the dll file) so i've uninstalled that and ... fingers crossed...will be back up and working again soon!

I doubt that Spybot would have caused your problem. I've been a Spybot user for years. It doesn't interfere with program usage in that way. In fact its "System Internals" check can often point to defective program installs.
