When i create a video file, what is the best format to save?

Post by Rainet »

I am making a dvd of music videos. Would it be ok to just save as project settings ( in the CREATE VIDEO FILE mode) and when i go to actually creating disc i can then change whatever custom i need like upper field first?

Or should i save as NTSC DVD (4:3) or NTSC mpeg2?

So basically i render everything here in the edit line and save it to video file then when it comes to actually burning the disc, by using the burn time line, it won't take forever? Hope im doing this right.

I don't know, because you don't say what your project and video properties are? Unless you are working with DVD compatible MPEG2, and not doing much editing, then you are going to have some rendering time. The time it takes depends on several variables, such as video format, project properties, and system specs. If you captured/transfered the video to your PC via Firewire, in DV format, and set your project properties to match, then saving or creating a video file with the same as project settings, will still require the video file to be transcoded to a DVD MPEG2.

Most of the videos have upper field first, mpeg 2 with different viarable bit rate.

however i tested a couple videos by saving it as as save as project settings in the video file. It came out as lower field first. So hence the question as

So save as project settings?should i save as NTSC DVD (4:3) or NTSC mpeg2?

The only editing ill be doing is making manual chapters. So i would takie it, if i save to video file, say 25 videos which will be a long time rendering however once its done, it will be fast to use in burn mode?
