HAALLP! It doesn't work.
I'm still new to the art of saving my Movie Studio 6 creations to disc.
Yesterday, I downloaded the NeroInfoTool to determine the compatability between my drive and various media.
The information gleened from the Nero tool allowed me to settled on using a DVD+R disc. It's covered in both the "Read" and "Write" catagory. Upon trying to save the movie to that disc I received a message saying the disc was either not blank or was not "Rewriteable." That news left me with nothing from which to draw.
I then referred to the Video Studio 6, PDF manual. I found nothing in there to help me.
Hopefully, some helpful soul will pitch in and set me straight.

I think you'd better post in detail the steps you took until the error message came up.
It is telling you something, and that is that you are using a disc which is not a RW disc, which as you say you are using +R is correct.
What we need to find is why it is saying this to you and to do that we need to know the steps you are taking.

The movie having been completed I clicked finish. The movie is rendered. I click to create a DVD.
Not much info for you. But, that's about as simple as it gets.
I suspect this piece of junk CD/DVD drive is not working as advertised.
The message tells me the disc is not blank or rewritable. Since my initial post I believe I understand what is meant by this. It is not that I have to use a RW disk. Only that, it is not blank and in lieu of that it is unable to rewrite over that which may be on it. In neither case can it burn the movie onto the disc. (The disc is new.)
The movie was dumped onto a CD-R in the MPEG format. That worked. But, a big problem occurs when I do that. The movie is not stretched a bit, vertically. (Resolution incorrect.)
I think I need to go back to the online HP folks and see what they say.
Thanks for the reply. If you have any other ideas let me know.
George.

George,
Is this Video Studio 6?
If so, can you post any settings you chose for make dvd? I'm not a great user of VS so don't know it that well, but I suspect that somewhere you or VS is telling the drive it wants to write to an RW disc, which it isn't.
I'm also going to ask a moderator to move it to the VS forum, where teh VDS experts will know the right questions to ask and tell you how to find the info they want.
Have you checked for any updates to VS, such as a writing one, I believe there may be one which might fix your problem.

Considering you are using version 6, it may not be compatible with your burner. Why not try downloading the trial of version 10 and see if that works?
Also, it looks like you are trying to burn with your project in the timeline. That goes against the Recommended Procedure. Have a read of that and see if that helps.

Disc Problems
Jeff,
Thanks for the reply. Am wondering what I said that indicated I was trying to save from the Timeline. I mentioned I clicked Finish/Create a DVD. Not sure I would even know how to save from Timeline.
Also, I mentioned all of the other people who gave this disc drive a bad rap in their reviews.
Regarding your mention, Studio 6 might not be compatible with this drive, I mentioned I was able to drop this movie onto a CD-R but not a DVD+R. I have checked to see which media are compatible with this drive. Since this machine is about the same age as Studio 6, 2.5 years old, I can't imagine why it wouldn't be compatible.
Thanks for the input.

Thanks for your interest.
Actually I have already posted same in the the other forum. This forum came to my attention after I did that. (I'm new here.) So, thought I would post here where it might be more appropriate.

Version 6 is 4-5 years old, if not older.Since this machine is about the same age as Studio 6, 2.5 years old, I can't imagine why it wouldn't be compatible.
You mention earlier that you downloaded the Nero Info Tool. If that includes Nero's InCD, that can sometimes cause problems with a burner. Try disabling that and see what happens.

Had 2 laugh on that one. Studio 6, was bundled with a firewire setup. So, guess I thought it was something up to date at the time I got it. Wrong!

No, it doesn't have the InCD with it. Just a tool to see the media the drive is capable of handling.
Thanks a bunch.
In your other thread you mentioned 'Roxio' that does have a drag and drop feature or also called 'packet writing' here is a thread unrelated to your software but related to your problem http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/119116

OK, thanks for that. However, I believe I've downloaded that already. Unfortunately, it is late. I have to catch an EARLY morning flight. I have to hit the sack. I'll check to see if that's the firmware I already downloaded. If not I will heed your advice.maddrummer3301 wrote:The same drives are in some HP laptops (same as Compaq).
Here is a link that's marked "Critical" to upgrade the "Firmware" of the Toshiba burner.
