MPEG conversion problem during capture

Post by nutzy »

Problem Description : when playback in edit mode, just after capture, my clips image is troubled with tens of little squares of different colours.
Location of the squares is changing frame after frame.
They look a bit like if bigs pixels where inserted into the image.

I capture from VHS videotape (PAL system), through a video composite input in a ASUS TV 7134 WDM Video capture card.

I worked 1 year with VS9 without any problem.
I switched to VS10+, with no problem, until 2 weeks ago.

Things that changed between last successful capture and now are :
- I tried to connect a TV-set to the graphic card to have a better preview of my projects. Image quality being poor, I disconnected it.
- I installed the new versions of Windows media player, windows live messenger, windows defender and windows directX.
- I installed the 2 patches of version VS10+.

Capture problem occurs both with VS9 and VS10+.
Problem occurs when converting to DVD format. I have tried other formats : the problem is still the same with SVCD. With AVI, VCD and WMV, the problem doesn't occur, but I don't want to use these formats.

Does anybody know why it worked before, and doesn't work now, and how a can manage to have it working back ?
Thank you in advance.

Try System Restore to return your computer to when it was working correctly.

Repeat each update one at a time and test for the error again.
When you discover the one causing the problem use system restore again and this time you will know which one to avoid.

Hello,
I tried to restore back to a date when the system worked, but the problem still remains.
As well in V10+ as in V9.

My reflections are the followings :
- I just realised that I made a lot of VHS captures with V9, but never from VHS to V10+ . I only used V10+ for DV capture.
- the problem occurs with the hi-resolution formats, and the most complicated compression algorithms (MPEG). The big "square pixels" could be linked with an unsufficient speed or unsufficient memory space ?
I have 1.5 Gb RAM, and it didn't change. Could it be that new DLLs (or anything like that) from V10+ are more memory demanding ?
- The problem seems to be located in conversion from VHS tape to DVD format, as well in V10+ as in V9.
Do you have more ideas ?
Thank you

DVD conversion

Post by nutzy »

Hello,
I remind that my objective is to convert old VHS tapes to DVD. I use a VHS tape reader connected via s-composite cable to a ASUS video capture card.

I performed new tests to try to identify more precisely the problem :
- I tried a capture from my webcam : same problem (squares "pixels" appear when playing back in "edit" mode.)
- I tried all DVD capture formats (from VHS source), each with constant and variable bit rate and with different imposed bit rates : the problem still remains.
- the same with V9 and V10+

Question : could it be that the MPEG conversion program is corrupted ?

Other question : is anybody else using V10+ to convert from VHS ? If yes, what parameters are you using ?
Thank you

Problem solved

Post by nutzy »

Thank you Discoled.
My problem was exacly the same.

In C:\Program Files\Common files\Ulead Systems\MPEG, I managed to replace the new version of MPGVout.004 (provided, I suppose, by the SP1) by the original one (recieved when buying V10+) .

And capture is working fine again.

Thank you everybody.
