Why separate video and audio

1.Why separate video and audio? What is the benefit?
2.Why convert MP3 WAV files to AC3 format? What is the benefit?
3.How to convert DV Type 2 to DV Type 1? I captured in DV Type 2.

1) Why indeed - don't do it unless you want to do something specific to the audio track - like cut a bit out or modify the sound in a small section.

2) Better sound quality and a smaller audio content on your finished DVD

3) Why would you want to convert - leave it as it is
