Importing AVI file into Video Studio 9
I am trying to edit some old Celluloid 8mm Cine films. I had them "Tele-Cine" converted into digital mini DV AVI format. I do not have a Camcorder but borrowed one to download these AVI files onto my Hard Drive. I can see them all listed (some 10 files totalling 24.6GB) but cannot acces them or import them into VS 9.
What must I do to be able to cut and edit them please?

You haven't actually told us what you tried to do - are the 'tele-cine' videos now on a Mini-DV tape ? - did you put this in the camcorder which is connected to your PC via firewire ?? - is the camera in 'Play' mode ?? - did you get a 'pop-up' from Windows asking what you wanted to do with the files ?? - was one of the options 'Capture with VideoStudio ?? - did you open VideoStudio and click on the 'Capture' Tab and then choose 'Capture Video' ? - is your camera showing in the 'source' box ? - when you click the second 'Capture Video' did you see any thing in the preview window ??? - - etc. - -etc. -- etc.

Importing AVI file into Video Studio 9
Thanks for your replies, here are my responses in turn:-
Reply to BrianCee:-1/ Yes all old Super 8s are now in MiniDV form 2/. Yes I borrowed a Sony Camcoerder and "FireWired" onto the HDD 3/. Yes I did "capture" them and put them in the E:\ drive under E:\Raw Video\DFH edit#2 06b_06_06.avi.
Now when I try to open one of them I get the following error message "Unable to open file E:\Raw Video\DFH edit#2 06b_06_06...Catastrophic Failure....[17101;70:2]
Whjat does this mean? Can you help please?
Sorry about the delay in responding but health matterrs intervened!

Reply to sjj1805:- Thanks for you tutorials I have read a lot of them and wish I had read them all before I began any of this Video Editing business!
Do any of my replies to Brian help at all?

Has it ever acknowledged avi files?
These programs are designed to work with DV which is a form of avi.
Other formats such as MOV, MPG, WMV and so on could be regarded as a bonus!
If you have the boxed version of VideoStudio 9 you could try running the installation program again and select the 'repair' option, otherwise it sounds like you need to Re-install

Dear Steve,
Thanks for your so quick response. Alas the programme after being repaired/reinstalled still doe not recognise .AVI files. It only recognises its own .VSP files.
Would all this be cleared up by buying VS v 10?
I am not clear about video file formats but presume that somehow or other I must have got the right sort, some time, to have achieved any editing at all.
Regards
Alan

I doubt that VS 10+ would fix any of this. No harm in downloading the TBYB version to try though.AlanD wrote:Dear Steve,

From your post I gather that, at some time in the past, you did capture files and edited with VS, otherwise you wouldn't happen to have a vsp file. Were these files from the same source or different?

Importing AVI files into Video Studio 9
Thanks to both Steve and Heinz for your replies. The reference you quoted Steve explains a lot to me and indicates what might be the problem. When transferring the AVI files I had Adobe Premiere Elements in the ccomputer and had intended to use it in place of Cyberlink Power Director 5 with which I had been having many problems. When I found that there was no "auto scene-detection" in Premiere I tried Video studio and all seemd to work well until I thought I ought to tidy my Hard Drives a bit and erase(Using Ashampoo Erase) all what I thought were superfluous files. I now sometimes get an error message saying "Cannot find file Adobe etc etc..avi and ever since have made only negative progress!!
Is there any way around this or will I have to go back to square one and reload all the avi files into a new project or is there a way of resurrecting the file address? (perhaps creating a new file address that matches what VS seems to be wanting and copying my .avi files into that address)/

Re: Importing AVI files into Video Studio 9
Don't have VS, but clicking on a .VSP extension will launch the Editor programme, *.AVI's have to be imported once the editor is running.AlanD wrote: Alas the programme after being repaired/reinstalled still doe not recognise .AVI files. It only recognises its own .VSP files.
How exactly are you doing the 'import' ?
