We're looking to start moving a local higher-learning facility into the HD age, baby steps. Our workhorse for shooting has been the Canon XL-1s. To throw a number out there, with a budget of $5,000 or so, we'd be in the market for the basics; a camera, a bag, a spare battery or two, and maybe a tripod.
One idea has been the AG-HVX200 by Panasonic. A current rebate offers a free 8 GB P2 card with purchase. From bwayphoto.com, a package of the camera, a couple of extra batteries, a basic tripod, a bag, and, for good measure, a wireless lav/handheld mic package, fills the budget almost exactly. On paper, sounds like a fairly good deal. Any recommendations/downsides to a package like that? Any other suggestions? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Looking to upgrade on a budget; where to start?
