Why do I get logged off automatically?

Post by snoops »

Well, there is no forum for forum topics so I'll dump it here...

This has been happening for quite a while, but not months ago.
Yes even if you check the box to "Log me on automatically each visit".

Reason: they changed the cookie expiration to 24 hours!
That's not realistic. Like everybody will check the forums more than once a day, every day. Might as well remove the option to remember the login... or pay for visiting

Admin brought it in about a month ago due to the spam that's been attacking our forum. Whilst it is a pain in the backside it is one of several changes that are being trialled.

The forum hit the most with spam was the Tutorials General Information.
Even a subtle change of name to Ulead Products General Information
didn't have any effect. For this reason forum members can post replies to existing posts in the Tutorials but cannot create a new one.

If a member does have a tutorial that they would like to publish on the forum please send me a PM with brief details of your tutorial and I will arrange for you to be granted write access.

I'll add my plea to extend the cookie expiration time - say, to 36 hours. I check this forum on a daily basis, but of course not at the same time each day, so I often find myself logged out.

As the adminstrator of another forum, I certainly appreciate the need for security, but I do feel that in this case, the 24 hr expiry is inconveniencing users without a significant balancing increase in security.

At least 36 hours, please!
