VS10 Pre-Loader at Startup?

Post by gordonwd »

I was in the process of cleaning up my PC startup programs last night and discovered a new one, which was called the "VS10 Preloader" that runs every time I log on. Anyone know what this does and if it's really needed? I do a lot of other stuff on my PC besides use VS10, so don't see a reason for always taking up memory with a bunch of VS DLLs or whatever this is doing.

I'm not sure exactly what it does, however I would not be in a hurry to remove it. It may have to do with why VS10 loads faster. Now I'm just guessing, but it may store information like the layout, and libraries with thumbnail information, so VS has that already available when you launch it. Then it may not affect how VS functions at all. But if your not having problems, and you are not that crowded for RAM and space, then I would opt to not mess with it.

Actually, it is a burn helper applet. Programs that require access to a CD/DVD burner often load an applet on Windows startup to help them burn faster. Nero does it, Roxio does it, and so does VS. If you are using more than one of these programs, it's best to create a specific user profile in Windows for VS and allow only its applet to load at startup to prevent any conflicts when burning.

Thanks. That is good info and means that I can get rid of it, as I never burn directly from VS. I always make an ISO file and then burn with Roxio.
