MPG2 Video source - No sound on DVD

Post by omed »

Hello.
I am a user of Ulead 5 recently converted to VS10 ... Hum, 48 hours :D .
My problem is the following:
I used a file from a miniDV Cam. This file is in my HD and encoded in MPG2. To be precise -> 6000 Kbps, 720*576 (4/3), at 25 fps, MPEG-2 Video (PAL)
I edit my video, add sounds, etc. As voice track, I do not add a new track because the voice is already within the MPEG video file.
I simulate the final video. Looks excellent... Everything is there!
When I create the video and burn the DVD:
- on a computer, I can listen to the voices of the original MPEG video file but not using WMP, for example. Media Player Classic does the job well.
- on stand-alone DVD player, I have no voice that comes from the MPEG video file event though I can listen to all the extra sounds that I have added on another track.

I am puzzled :?:. I thought that VS10 could not handle to extract the voice out of the MPEG2 file but if I can read the video properly from MPC, this means that the voice track is there... I tried also to create the DVD using PCM, MPEG, Dolby Digital as audio output but it does not work. On a standalone DVD, i cannot listen to the video file voice.
Could someone help?

Thank you
BrianCee

Thank you for your time.
Just to be sure I made myself clearly understood:
- I hear the extra sounds that I added on the soundtrack for the menus, etc.
- I DO NOT hear the voice (out of the movie) that comes with the MPG2 file(extracted from my camcorder) even though I see my movie

I tried the following configurations (out of the dvd disk)and could not hear the video sound:
- Pioneer DVD player & recorder
- Samsung DVD player
- on py PC, with Windows Media Player

I CAN hear the video sound on my PC using Media Player Classic.

When you create your dvd do you check "treat mpeg audio as non-compliant"? Sounds like the audio format of the original mpeg is not compatible with your other players, what settings are you using for sound?

No, I'll try that but while reading the specs of the product, I surprisingly noticed that MPG2 is not supported as audio input format.
Is this correct?
Thank you.

OK, I checked the option that you mention. It is not present in the VS10. I guess it is a feature of VS10+?

Also I tried when using the MPG2 video, in the audio editor interface, to split the audio from the video. When performing this option, I see that the voice track gets filled by the sound (I then turn off the audio from the video track)

What I will try tonight is to extract the sound track into an MP3 file and then add it as separate voice track... I do not see much options there.

But i am really amazed that this kind of things (meaning let pass possibly incompatible audio layer) are not detected by the software. There are so many options that it makes it so time consumming for "regular guys" to get a simple video done.
