Choppy DVD playback on DVD players

Post by schatz98 »

I made several DVD movies from family DV, that was downloaded in DV format and then edited and then finally recorded on DVD.
I have a newer set top Sony DVD w/ progressive scan and a TV that has progressive scan capabilities.
when I play the DVD, some areas of the video is very choppy and pixilated and sometimes stops playing. I can play that same DVD and play it on an older Sony DVD player that I own and it works just fine.
The DVDs are DVD+R format disks

Some of my other family members have said the same thing about being choppy, etc.

Any thoughts? Is this a video recording format issue, a DVD+-R issue, progressive scan DVD player , etc.

Please help me out

Thanks

What were your project settings? It could be that you used too high a bitrate for your player.

and my settings for when I burn to DVD are:

Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9

There is certainly nothing in these settings warranting the problems you describe. What speed did you burn the DVD's at? Try a slower burning speed and different media brand.

Since some play fine and others don't, it sounds like DVD player compatibility issues with the +R discs. Follow Steve's link and check if that is the case.
This link will take you right to it.

I did check the DVD player compatibility list and both DVD +R and -R are ok. So what was going to do was to burn a new dvd with a 2.4X speed burn and give that a try.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks again for all your advise.

I previously also used a bitrate of 8000 kbps but found the same problem on older DVD Players. For compatibility between DVD players I will not use more than 6000 kbps.[/quote]
