"neighboring transition will be lost"

Post by raygo »

I have a 3 second transition between 2 clips in the timeline.
The clip to the right[after the transition] is about 10 minutes long and I want to trim it to many other samller clips but no matter where I pick to trim or cut, I get the above popup which tells me I will loose the transition. Even 5 minutes past the effect it still wants to delete it from the timeline. why is this?
I always thought that you loose a transition if the following clip is too short..

Hi if you start worrying why Ulead does things the way it does you'll go crazy, just accept it as the others do and find a work around.

For some reason and (ours is not to reason why) Ulead doesn't like us messing with the time line after setting a transition so do your cuts first then add your transitions.
If you do lose that transition the cut is still there in the same place so just put it back again.

Forget about how short or long a clip is, it is a clip.

You have clip A and Clip C and you place a transition between them - we will call that B

A [clip] -- B [Transition] -- C [Clip]

Try to alter ANY part of A or C and it will affect the middle man - B.
No big deal though because you can always re-insert B at a later time.

I think your right.
I think I learned that the hard way last project.
I think I forgot I learned that.

We have a term in the US called "helicopter parents" cause they hover over there kids from birth to adulthood to forever making all there decisions.

you remind me of them but in a good way..
thanks dad.

You can put in a fake cut. That is to say, do a cut some where in the video with the sissors icon. But do not delete the clip. Then you can do the transistion to the portion of the cut clip without losing the exisitng transition. So..it takes a little bit of thinking about where to put in the fake cuts. But you have to put in the fake cuts first, then go ahead in put in the transition where you normally wanted to insert them.
