Replicate dvd

Post by zedcrazy »

Hi can anyone answer this question I want to get a dvd replicated dvd 9 dual layer but when I asked the replicating company they said to ensure that the authoring program that I used being ulead movie factory 2 SE, can output to DLT. If not they will need to encode and author the DVD 9 for me, costing around $950 any thoughts...thanks.

Ulead DVD Workshop (Express version = $200) can output to DLT. But, since you don't own a DLT drive (I presume) you'd still need to work out a way to get a file to them in a format they can use.

I assume that you will have to re-author the project in DVD Workshop. And, you'll have to learn a new program. :( As far as I know, you can't import a project from Movie Factory... but maybe I'm wrong.

If you are going to do this more than once you are going to want a more professional authoring program anyway. Movie Factory is very limited, and I'm kind-of surprised that you're using it for a mass-duplicated project.

Yes, use Ulead DVD WorkShop instead and buy a DLT device for that purpose.

Ulead DVD WorkShop and WorkShop Express:

OH CRAP ! :(

The express version does NOT have DLT or DVD-9 support.
The standard version is $400, and I think you still need access to a DLT drive. I don't know if you can re-direct the DLT formatted output to your hard drive. I guess if you must have DVD-9 and/or professional replication, then you must pay!

DVD Workshop also has the option of generating an ISO image file. I wonder if the replication company can use that. You still need a way of transferring that big ISO file to them. There are options in the DLT menu that are not available when you create an ISO image... Stuff like setting the layer-split point, seting the CSS or Macrovision flag, setting the Disc Description Protocol, etc.

You can Download the DVD Workshop manual. Look in the Finish section (which starts on page 97 of the printed manual).

[EDIT] -
DVD Workshop Express will create an ISO file larger than a single-layer DVD... I just tried it, creating a 5MB+ file.

I don't ususlly make ISO files, but I frequently author DVDs to the hard drive creating VIDEO_TS folders that won't fit on a single layer. I don't burn dual-layer DVDs... I usually use DVDshrink to squeeze it onto a single-layer DVD-R.

DVD replication companies only accept DLT tapes I believe. However, you might need to ask the factory to get the correct answer.

Hope this helps.
