hello Viking, thanks for answering, i'm at a loss to explain, i have used both these programs for nearly a year with no problems, suddenley it's coming up with an error, not only that but i did a total reinstall this afternoon to no avail. the video mpeg is a Pal compliant Mpeg, maybe i could save it as something else??? the error, all it says is unable to read video file....and then the name of where the file resides on my pc.
any help from you guys would be really appreciated.... thanks

Installed any softwares recently?
Have you checked the hardware devices in your system? For example, RAM modules, hard disk, etc... Maybe you can download some memory diagnose program to test. If anything wrong with the hardware devices, you might be able to use the system but will get some file corruptions.
We might need more details from you to know what's going on in the system. Follow the instructions in http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8974 and then people can help with your issue. However, it might not be easy to find the root cause.

somehow and i don't know why, i was saving as a Pal Mpeg 25 frames per second, when in the past i always saved NTSC 29 frames, and then tried to make a gif...... why i was trying a 25 per second remains a mystery. i remembered this morning that i moved to 29 frames because it was better quality
thanks for all your help

I wonder if putting in the extra frames ran you out of RAM?
To be sure this is not the problem, (if you are on windows), Right click the task bar and select task manager.
On the Performance tab, make note of the available memory.
Now switch to the Processes tab and click twice on the column header "mem usage," this will put the processes with the highest memory usage at the top of the list.
Now open your file with gif animator, and notice the memory usage. If it steadily increases towards the amount of available memory you have, then quits, you may need more ram.
The reason I say this is because I had a similar problem, I was doing fine until i increased the raw number of frames in the project. Adding ram fixed the problem.
Don't just buy RAM though unless toy confirm that this is the problem.
