How To Split A Videostudio Project Into Two Parts?

Post by Stephen Arthurs »

Does anyone know how to split an entire project into two parts so that I can record them separately to my camcorder if I don't have enough disk space to do an entire hour-long project all at once?
Thanks,
Stephen

Hi Stephen, welcome to the forums..

To split your project into 2 projects, this is assuming that you have captured your video, and you have more then one video clip in the timeline / storyboard.

1. Make sure you have saved your project containing all the video clips.
2. Decide where you want to split.
3. Delete half the clips.
4. Save this project file with a new name. For example your project that has all the clips is Project A. Now using Save as, Project B.
5. Open Project A, then delete the other half of the clips.
6. Save as Project C.

Now you should have 3 projects, A=all the videoclips before splitting, B=the first half of the clips, and C=the second half of the clips.

If you only have 1 video clip, then try using the Multi-Trim or Split by Scene to cut out unwanted video parts.

Also you apparently have a small harddrive, how much free space do you have?

But do I have to delete every single video and audio clip individually. Can't I just tell the program somehow to delete or cut everything from, say, the mid-point back? And what if I want to move a whloe section of the video, including sound to the front from the back. Is there no way to select a group of files and delete or move them together?
Thanks,
Stephen
You can use the standard Windows shortcuts to multi-select video and audio files. Simply click on the first clip that you want to delete, then holding down the Shift Key go to the last clip and click on it. All the clips in between will be selected. Or you can hold down the Control Key if you do not want every clip, but just random ones. This works in both Storyboard and Timeline views. However it does not work across tracks, ie; you will have to do this for each track.

There is no provision in VS for what you are describing, however would be nice..
