MPEG capture does not accept MJPG codec - with a v. Camera

Post by leeor_c »

The problem was documented here but I get the same with a panasonic digital video camera nv-gs27eg, I am using only USB2 cable and I dont have firewire card with IEEE cable, and the manual shoes the firewire as an optional choice .

Nature of the problem: I'm trying to capture video using MPEG but keep getting the error mentioned in teh subject line - I can capture only in avi format.

Error Codes (if any): 13011:5:3

Is my problem caused by the fact I use the usb camera port and not the DV port?

I'm running WinXP Pro SP2

It will be connected yes.
Panasonic have started using the new USB2 video driver, but the software you use also has to be so equiped, so using the app supplied would probably work.

I would strongly suggest using firtewire though. I just bought my Dad a firewire card and cable for the princely sum of £12.99, and 10 mins fitting time.

To the both answers

First thank you both.

1. To skier-hughes, I know that my nv-gs27eg panasonic has a USB2 and it works but only can create AVI files, and not MPEG.

2. Maddrummer3301 - your answer is quite satisfying except the fact : Why should I go and buy firewire card and istall it, If I have , pansonic with USB2 cable (and AVI only option as you said) . Is the difference in quality is so obvious ???

OK, misunderstood your question.
I believe the USB2 video drivers do only work with dv-avi files.

Is there a reason you want to capture direct to mpeg?

DV-AVI files are higher in quality than mpeg, easier to edit, but do take longer to produce your final dvd.

Mpeg will be harder to edit and you stand the chance of losing more quality if you do lots of editing.
You can of course make a dvd much quicker if you don't edit.
