Sorry, Steve, but you are referring to transitions. I agree, there are few differences in the number of those between Ver 9 and 10. There were large numbers of complaints about some of the flip transitions not working correctly in V9 and so logically I would think that the troublesome transitions were dropped.

VS10+ has the new Smartscene menus which are not in VS9 or earlier versions.
The normal style Menus I would regard as 'samples' because most users would want to alter them to suit their own taste.
You can alter the background image or video, alter the frames and so on please view:
Creating the thumbnail Menus
With all of this available customisation I would argue that you only need 12 menus.
Menu 1 - with 1 thumbnail
Menu 2 - with 2 thumbnails
......
Menu 12 - with 12 thumbnails.
Any more than 12 thumbnails and you are probably pushing it a bit - things would just be too crowded.
