Update menus only?

Post by ranazarian »

When making a new DVD from a video file is it possible to just edit and change the menus without having to re-render the whole movie? I already have DVD files created, but I want to change the menu navigation and look. Is that possible or does the whole thing have to be rerendered. Thanks.

The best and only way (afaik) is to first do an output to file rather than go straight to disc.

To do this select create file instead of create disc. Depending on your target media e.g PAL DVD, render your file.

Then when you go to output to disc delete you project file (if its been auto inserted) then select add video file.

Set up all your menus and then save your project as usual.

When you come back to it next time you'll be able to alter the menus etc without re-rendering the video itself (although the creation of all the menus and audio video multiplexing will still happen)

Hi ranazarian,

To answer your questions, yes you can just edit and change the menus without having to re-render the whole movie. The main purpose of the DVD authoring module is to do just that, create and edit the menus, although it does allow you to some basic editing, primarily cutting and trimming of the video files in the media timeline.

And again, yes you can change the menu navigation and look without having to rerender the whole thing.

:) :)

16:9 and 4:3

Post by ranazarian »

Thanks for the help. Can someone point me to a tutorial on how to get 16:9 and 4:3 onto one disc and to be able to select between them on the main menu while retaining chapter menus? Is that possible? THanks again.

OK - got it myself this time. Put the 4:3 and 16:9 video files in the DVD timeline then add chapters to each. Haven't generated output yet, but I assume this works and that it won't muck with the aspect ratios of the video files.
