videostudio 9 output disk format
I have video studio 9 but cannot burn to disk as it tells me i need a CDRW/VCD disk to burn images. My video has images, video and audio on. My DVDRW recognised i have a DVD in the drive but thats as far as i get. On the create disk screen in video studio the output disk format drop down only has VCD in it, does this have to be changed to DVD and if so how do i do it?
Please help as i am banging my head with frustration.
I have checked the DVDRW and am confident there are no problems there.
Thanks

They might be the same physical shape and size but a DVD holds 6 times more information than a CD.
CD = 650/700MB
DVD = 4.3 GB

In order to give any meaningful help we need a lot more info. Have a read of this and fill in your system spec's in your profile. http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8959
Have you been able to write DVDs before? Maybe you only have what is known as a DVD Combo writer. This device can read DVD but only write CD.

Could you tell us what version of VideoStudio you have Tracey - I know you said 9 but is it by any chance a version 9 SE - the SE is quite important as it tells us that you have a Special (Simplified) Edition which may not be able to burn DVDs - was your copy of VideoStudio free with something you purchased.
Unless it specifically says Version 9 SE DVD it is very likely that it is not able to burn DVDs and that may be the root cause of your problem - the easiest solution is to upgrade to a full edition but you could also create an mpeg2 file in the version you have and use another programme (Roxio, Nero etc. etc. ) to burn a DVD.

Hi Brian, thanks for your reply. My videostudio 9 came as a set with the PYRO BasicDV hardware that i had to install to allow my video camera to plug in to the computer. As for it being an SE version i am not sure it doesn't say it on any packages i have bu the SE bit rings a bell when i was loading the progame on my computer.BrianCee wrote:Could you tell us what version of VideoStudio you have Tracey - I know you said 9 but is it by any chance a version 9 SE - the SE is quite important as it tells us that you have a Special (Simplified) Edition which may not be able to burn DVDs - was your copy of VideoStudio free with something you purchased.

If it came as part of a package of any type then then we can be 99.9% sure you have an 'SE' version - - just to be sure - open VideoStudio and up in the top right corner of your screen you will see a question mark, a minus sign and an X
Click on the question mark and from the pop-out which appears choose "About Ulead VideoStudio" - an information panel will appear with the version number under the picture - if it only says "Version 9.00 SE" (or similar) then it is almost certain you can not burn a DVD with it
To burn a DVD with an SE version it must specifically say "Version 9.0 SE DVD" - if DVD is not included in the SE version symbol I'm afraid your only options are those I described in my previous post.

The version i have is version 9.00 SE DVD as it says in the 'About Ulead Videostudio'. Where do i go from here? I am really stuck, should i just bite the bullet and call in a computer expert as i seem to have tried everything and my knowledge only goes so far.

'You need a CDR/RW to burn a VCD/SVCD disk image file. Please change the disk and try again.'
This brings me back to my original question should it only say in the 'Output disk format' drop down list VCD or should it say DVD?!!
Can anyone help?

I think we need to start with all the basic stuff.
Firstly may I ask you once again
Please click here -->
Once you have completed that step, please detail the following.
What was the original source of your video clips. Were they from your camcorder, ripped from a DVD, downloaded off the internet or some other source?
How did they get into your computer, e.g. via an IEEE1394 (firewire) cable, TV card or some other means.
What did you do with those source files - e.g. made edits to them.
Did you then create DVD compliant MPEG2 files and if so what were the settings e.g. PAL DVD / NTSC DVD. Bit rates, dimensions e.g. 720x576
Audio format. The more you can tell us the better the chances are tht we can help.

My original source was from a camcorder and was transferred on to the computer by DV connection and firewire. I then edited the files and put audio to them.sjj1805 wrote:I think we need to start with all the basic stuff.
