Hello, I do Use a camcorder yes, But since many in my family use a digital camera, I think I'll get the video they take and do my own work, probably combining clips, and putting them on TV DVD player playable CD'S and DVD'S.
I use a much older computer, and I'm a sort of Novice. I'm trying to figure out what format would be easier to deal with, hopefully talking into consideration which format is better to begin with quality and compression etc... and since my mother wants to get a new inexpensive camera.
I'm fighting with a Canon A540 that does AVI Motion JPEG, and a Kodak C643 that does Quicktime MOV MPEG4.
Digital Camera Formats, AVI (Motion JPEG, VS MOV MPEG4)

You might find that the video taken with digital still cameras is not very suitable for DVD. The frame size, frame rate and compression used is not suitable for a set top DVD player. Conversion to DVD compliant formats will degrade the already poor quality further. Having an "older" computer will mean long conversion times also.
Personally, I feel, you are pushing a string with your intentions. You can, however, use these clips to view on a PC and no conversion is needed. All you need to do is burn these to CD or DVD discs as data files. As long as the media player used on the PC does have the right codecs installed there shouldn't be a problem sharing these with family/friends for playing on a PC.

Something to be taken into consideration if choosing a Kodak.
I have had no response from Ulead as yet.
There was a fix for MOV files but currently the link is dead.
I have sent the following to Ulead Tech Support:
One of the favourite links on the Ulead User Forum now appears to be non existent.
To save Users keep bothering yourselves for the Kodak Mov File Patch could you place a new link and let me have the address please.

With your 2's knowledge which of those 2 formats is better to have as an all around or base (original) file...
