Archiving

Post by RTR1944 »

What is a good method of archiving everything from the source files to the finished product? I did a video and photo montage and I have 25GB just in video clips plus a lot of other smaller files. My goal is to archive so I can clean up my computer's C drive.

Thanks for your help

1. Another Hard Drive - Removable ones are good.
2. Tape.
3. Do you intend to do further editing at a later date. If not save the videos in MPEG format onto DVD.

There's two ways that I am aware of to save onto tape.

Method 1. Using a Tape Back Up Device
http://www.pctechguide.com/35Tape.htm

Method 2. To your Camcorder.
Providing you have a camcorder that enables you to import Video from your computer as well as export it. Not all camcorders can do this.

Isn't this the most unstable of your three options?

The method I use is described at

http://www.seedwiki.com/wiki/video_stud ... pid=194534

I authored this page of the wiki, so if anything is unclear or you have any questions on how to, please don't hesitate to ask.

I use it for every video project I undertake - and since I discovered the truth about DVD blank quality (http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm) have not experienced a single problem :-).

I use the same tools/technique to keep a backup of my C: drive on DVD - which I restore on a regular basis as a mechanism of keeping a "clean" computer.
