I have segmented a video into multiple clips. I need to save selected clips. I am currently doing this by going to the timeline and selecting an individual clip and then going to CLIP | SAVE TRIMMED VIDEOS.

Since it takes a couple of minutes to save the clips, and I have more than one to do, I would like to be able to select multiple clips and then have SAVE TRIMMED VIDEOS save all the selected clips, not just one. Saving multiple clips at the same time, however, does not seem feasible?

Have you experienced the same situation or am I seeing something odd in my installation?

Do you have a work around that would enable me to "batch" save multiple selected videos?

I guess you could use the batch convert and use the same properties as the clips even though you are not converting them.

Thanks GuyL for considering this. I may have misunderstood what you meant by your suggestion, so I'll describe why it didn't seem to work for me. My goal is to take multiple clips from the timeline and save them, producing a mpg for each clip to my hard drive. So far, it seems when I use the TOOLS | BATCH CONVERT option, it is only offering to convert files which are already saved to the hard drive, not clips from a current timeline.

So, without further suggestion or clarification, this option is not helping me reach my goal of selecting and saving multiple clips as multiple files on my hard drive.

Any other thoughts?

I can't see any way to achieve your goal and I don't believe there is a way.

I understand what you are trying to do, but even if you select multiple clips, the VS menu for Save Trimmed Video becomes disabled - so there doesn't seem to be any provision to do it. But when you consider the matter, it would still have to be done sequentially (the saving of each clip) - but it would be nice to save you the trouble of selecting each clip and executing the command .

I realise this doesn't help (:-)) but my workflow is to capture a video in one big clip, then look through it (whilst it is still in the Video Library) and "cut" it up into individual clips - as I define each clip of interest (as opposed to the clips that show shots of the ground etc ), I immediately save the clip as a separate trimmed video - which does mean, that depending on the size of the clip, pausing in my cutting activity whilst VS is performing the save operation.

Regarding your comments on workflow, I thought I would spell mine out in case someone else has some ideas for better methods. It seems my workflow is somewhat similar to yours, PeterMilliken. In fact, if we were able to figure out how to save multiple clips with one operation, it seems like it might be handy once in a while for you, too, based on the methods you described.

I am taking 8 mm tapes which are 1 hour long. I have a DV Recorder with I-link.

1) I am connecting the digital 8 mm camera to the DV Recorder via i-link.

2) I have a 1-touch dub on the DV Recorder which is pretty nice after all the defaults are setup on the DV recorder. Once the 1-touch button is hit, the 8 mm video is transferred to DVD-RW.

3) Moving the DVD-RW over to the computer, I am using Video Studio's CAPTURE | IMPORT DVD/DVD-VR and then importing.

4) Once imported, the video then shows up as a thumbnail in the video window.

5) I drag the thumbnail down to the timeline. Then I select it in the timeline and then select Multi-Trim Video to segregate the video into clips.

6) Once segregated, I am ready to store these clips as mpg files. Currently, I select each individual clip and then chose CLIP | SAVE TRIMMED VIDEO in order to save.

Since my computer is relatively slow, my clips may take 3 to 10 minutes to save, but they are small enough that I just can't walk away from the computer. I have to stick by my computer in order to get all the clips saved, otherwise it would take all day passing by my computer when convenient to save all the clips.

I attempted to utilize DVD Shrink 3.2 to perform this task of segregating and saving clips. Actually, it seems to be much faster to grab the clips this way with the exception that I can't seem to get the audio to go with the clip, thus making this option currently useless.

Yes, we have a similar approach

In my case I am editing avi files -> which means some of my clip segments may mean gigabytes of writing! So there are definitely times when I leave my computer and get a cup of coffee.

It's a shame that not only can't you specify multiple clips, but also that it ties up VS whilst the operation is occuring! I can't understand why they can't shovel it off to a subbordinate task and allow the user to continue editting.

For a non-linear editor, the VS programmers certainly seem to exhibit a lot of linear thinking...

Perhaps you could do the following.

After trimming the main video into clips drag the clips in the libary.
Then make a project from each and every single clip by dragiing a clip from the library. Which can be a lot. After having done that you can batch convert these clips all at once.

At least you won't have to wait for each single clip to convert.

I have tried the suggestion that Randazzo offered. It appears this is a solution that will work. Thanks Randazzo for providing this work around.

Based on my desire to save multiple clips at the same time with incremental numbers on the resulting filenames, I think this should fix should be included in the suggestions for the next revision of Video Studio.

I'm trying to do as you're doing and I can't pull off the same thing. I have 200 clips that my Sony HDV made when I stopped and started taping (hard drive based cams do this) that I'd like to apply the Videostudio ANTI-SHAKE filter to each one (a lot of people were bumping into me), then batch save the 200 videos- preconfigured with my save template (which saves as avi and video only). I'm doing this process manually but I wish to automate it by selecting every video file I have in the viewer and automating the applied video filter and save format and have it save to the folder I already specified. All the pieces are there to do it manually, why can't I figure out how to batch do this process like a Photoshop does to tons of photos??? Just apply my template with video filter and go to the work directory? I can't do this manually for 200 videos and be done this century. Please assist if anyone has any update.
