VS 8 & VS 10 Trial both freeze during capture attempt

Post by tmozilo »

Been using VS 8 for a couple of years no problems. New computer, reinstalled from cd, worked with no problems. Computer came with Sonic DVD software. I tried it, didn't like it, and went back to VS 8. Now it freezes when I try to capture video. I select capture tab, and before I can do anything, the 'change field order' pop up comes up, gets to 50% and freezes, every time. I uninstalled 8 and resintalled. Did not fix. I uninstalled 8 and downloaded 10 trial. Did not fix. I uninstalled Sonic DVD and rebooted. Did not fix. Full Norton virus scan run with no issues. Now I only have VS 10 trial on my PC and don't know where to go from here. Help? Thanks in advance.

What are you capturing from? (DV camera via Firewire? An analog capture device? etc?).

What format?

Thanks for the reply. DV Camera via AVout (rca plugs into sound card on PC). Format avi or mpg. Haven't been able to get to the point where I can select a format.

Where do you connect the video cable? Why don't you use a firewire port?

Hi, do yourself a favor and don't capture via rca to your video or sound card. Visit this link and see this card. I've used it many times and all with great success.

That is the way to capture DV. The other way is depending on software encoding and ends up being a mess. (even though you had some success before) Trust me on this, I've learned the hard way. :)

Firstly Windows MediaCentre is not a supported Operating system for VideoStudio 8.

Regarding VideoStudio 10 please view

I don't use firewire only because I don't have the right cable. My PC does have a firewire port, so I will go get the cable and give it a shot.

That being said, even without the DV camera connected, VS 10 Trial still freezes. I hit the capture tab, click the capture video selection, and then I get a "Change Field Order" pop up that gets to 50% then freezes (Windows 'program not responding' message). I have a TV card in the PC and VS used to pick up that signal right away. Doesn't anymore. My gut says this has something to do with my trying to capture video with Sonic DVD. Could there be a file cached somewhere that I need to clean up?

Is there a telephone support phone number at ulead? At this point, I'm willing to pay for the call...

Thanks again. I do appreciate your replies!

Is that the same version of VideoStudio?
I have a Hauppauge TV card and VideoStudio 9 would work with it - no problem. VideoStudio 10+ does not work with the Hauppauge card.

I have found that the best software to capture from your TV card is the software that comes with the card itself. In respect of Hauppauge this is WinTV2000. After 'recording' the program you use your Ulead Products for authoring your DVD.
