A 4.7 gig disc will hold 4.7 gig. However with video the amount that can be placed on a disc is determined by the bit-rate, which is usually measured in kps (kilobytes per second). So to fit 4 hrs of video on a single-layer DVD disc, you need to calculate the bitrate. There are several bitrate calculators available on-line. Links to a couple bitrate calculators are provided in our Free Stuff For Use with Ulead Programs forum.

I used one of the calculators, and determined that to fit 4 hrs of video on to a single-layer disc, your bitrate would need to be around 2700kps. This would be very poor quality.

thanks for your help,do you think that by dividing it in to 2 x hour dvd this might work without losing picture quality( i use studio 9 to capture then convert to mp2)

Not knowing what your source video is, (VCR, camcorder..) I would say splitting onto 2 discs you certainly will get much better quality then trying to cram it on 1 disc. The bitrate would need to be around 4800kps. Which is about VCR quality.
