AUDACITY - downloading sound from VS9 into this program??

Post by lakewud »

Ok, so at the final hurdle ( take away the menus and actual burning of course!! )...the sound....

I see VS isnt the greatest for editing the occasional word/ wind noise etc...and have read on here that the thing to do is to take the soundtrack and ply it into another music editing program like Audacity....as a wav.file then stick it back..

Ok, so i have the program...and now im stuck...can someone please tell me where i go from here...how do i insert it so that i can actually listen to the thing and make changes..and how does it not go out of sync when i 'magically' transport it back into VS?

At a loss...battling with VS as it is..let alone another! program to get to grips with...not asking for too much, take away the odd sound, add on a sound fx here and there....copy some background noise over another part of the video etc etc.

Any help? Its a 40min video i have btw.

And, any good sites where i can hear/download decent sound fx?

thanks in advance.

In UVS, go to Share -> Create Sound File to export the audio to a separate file that you can load in Audacity.

Fix the audio in Audacity (that's a whole different subject).

Next, back in UVS, select the clip that you just exported in the timeline, right-click, and chose Split Audio to separate the audio from the video and place it on a separate track. Select the audio and delete it.

Right-click in the timeline and select Insert Audio, and load the audio file you created using Audacity. If the audio wasn't shortened or lengthened in Audacity, it should line up perfectly with your video.

Thanks for the reply.

Will try it now..too scared to even ask regarding the 'whole different subject'..problems enough with this vs project...as good as it all is..feels at times like i can see the effect i want..almost get it...but only to have yet another obstacle thrown in my path...typical of computers i suppose!

But thanks again, will give it all a go.

Noise removal with Audacity isn't that bad, but if you haven't the program before, it can be confusing.

The way you remove noise in Audacity is by locating a section of audio that contains only noise -- you mark that, go into the Noise Removal filter, and let it learn the characteristics of the noise. You then mark the section of audio you want cleaned up, and let the Noise Removal filter process it based on what it learned about the noise in the previous step.

Then save the audio back to a WAV file and load it into UVS.

Again, thank you both for your replies. Sadly, the user manual link doesnt seem to be working ( have tried looking elsewhere for this - to no effect ) and the forum doesnt seem to get much of a regular lookin for my liking...afterall i started this current project with black hair...and now ive been told im grey!

Tried to understand this audacity lark...have been forced to cut down my 'lofty' expectations for this project at least....

So, could some kind soul please tell me..via VS9 or audacity...all i want to do is...(a) cut of some sound altogether ( tried this..but once burned up it pops!! ) ( b) edit out a little of the howling wind..is it as easy as you say to do in audacity? where do i begin..in zoom mode..that envelope tool???

So, any other way in vs9 to..say...copy some sound from one track duplicate it and put it onto the next track..again, tried to mess about...not as simple as...cut n paste thou...only manged to do it via saving my project, opening up another one and taking that...well something like that...

Finally, want to add a couple of whizzzess etc on the soundtrack..along with music...so...i place the whizzzes where?...and is there a decent site i can find these whizzzzes...yes yes...ive looked on this site at the freebies...

thanks for any replies.

ok! this is now driving me nutz!

So - thanks to sjj1805 i have a copy of the manual which im looking at...managed to do a few basic things using the envelope tool! tricky or what!! and fading in/out silencing etc....

Thought id export it back into VS..just as Thoff recommended...splitting audio etc...please PLEASE tell me how to do this....

The audio/video is 40min...so how do i split the audio from the entire length of my project...basically wanting to silence/erase the audio from my original project and re-insert the Audacity modified version...to what track to i place this on..the voice track..can i still then add music via VS..or must i add the music i want using Audacity ( im hoping this isnt to be the case..all im using audacity for is silencing a few things and editing out a few words etc... ) Do i import the modifed track back into VS using the....? you tell me!!

Aside from that, alls going well..learning a lot and liking more and more the audio aspect...hard to get used to at first not being able to see the pictures but practice makes perfect...i hope.

You don't have to split the audio, you can just mute it. Same thing.

You can put your Audacity file on either the voice or music track, although if you want to use a SmartSound track as background music, the Smartsound will only use the music track.

Import your Audacity track by clicking on the Load Audio button on the Audio tab and pointing to where you saved the track on your computer.

thanks for the prompt reply blacklab.

But - and theres always a but with these computer programs!..i was under the impression even if you mute something..once burned the sound comes back..thats in my experience anyway....though i could be wrong and done something different.

That aside, where is the mute button and must i select every! clip in the 40minute duration..300plus clips!! or can i select the entire lot.

AND, the load audio button is.....i need to be shown these things!!!

thanks again for the reply thou

The mute button is shown in this article
Clip Volume

To split the audio see this article:
Split Audio

If you mute the audio and render a video, the muted audio track is not carried over into the new video.

Mute Audio

Post by Ken Veal »

with the clip selected in the storeyboard view, after you have clicked
"mute" ("B" in steves reply) the speaker icon on the clip will show an X on it.Not sure if there is a way to mute the sound in the project view as opposed to the clip view ,that would mute all in one go.
The load audio facility is the folder icon on the top right.
hope this is if some help,
regards Ken

thanks again for the replies...will try out what youve said when i get chance.

Surprised that you cant seem to mute the entire soundtrack in one go..so means i must only use audacity in short bursts then....one clip at a time!! Not too clear..but...IF i mute the clip in vs9...IT DOES? carry over onto the burnt dvd or not...im sure i tried this once and up popped the orginal sound even on the dvd.

as Steve mentioned above
If you mute the audio and render a video, the muted audio track is not carried over into the new video.
