Sound out of sync

Post by Mike Warren »

Welcome back... just when I need your help. My 95 minute long video was too big for DVD, so I split it in two by burning one half to a DVD disc and the other half to a second disc. After rendering and burning, the sound was in sync on first disc... but totally out of sync on the second disc. I burned one half at a time by using red line on video track to mark new beginning and end, but found that it burned an entirely different part of the video instead. What worked correctly was when I used red line in the burn DVD window (Share tab). But like I said, the sound was out of sync in secound half disc only.

Good to have you back

Hi Mike,

What bitrate are you using? You could probably drop it to around 6000kps to get your 95 min on a single disc..

Bitrate Calculator. It says that a bitrate of 6318kps, you can fit 1hr 30min on a single layer DVD. So 6000 should allow for your 95 min video. Are you also using Dolby digital for your audio?

Sound out of sync

1) Will a 6000 bit rate noticeable lessen my image quality?

2) Because I'm new at this, can you tell me how to change my bit rate from 7000 to 6000? I'm using Studio 10.

No, I did not set my editing to have any special stereo on. But my film has tons of music, special effects and sub titles.

Thanks for helping.

Hear's a great chance to compare you already have a disc burned to 7000kbps why waste it?

2) Because I'm new at this, can you tell me how to change my bit rate from 7000 to 6000? I'musing Studio 10.

Open Edit>File>New Project>Locate and drop your movie file onto Time line (When prompted to change project settings Clk no ) Open Share Tab>Clk Create Video File>Select 'Custom' from drop down list>In dialogue box Clk- 'Options'> Three tabs at top - select each one and change settings to suite (Don't click OK until youve changed the last one) which is Compression Tab there you can set the Bitrate now clk OK.
This will take you back to 'Create video File' Dialogue box Set file location
give it a name and .Save Your new file will be rendered then you burn from there and you will still have your original 8000k file if you want it.
If youre not happy with the quality youv've probably got a dedicated burning software (Nero etc) that came with your burner which may be better for splitting your 7000kbps file to two discs than Ulead.

It's not something I would do myself but someone recently lent me a VCD disc with a 2 hour film on it. - Yes that's right a VCD disc 700MB.
I was quite surprised at the quality. It was far better than I was expecting it to be. It was certainly watchable.

How much you squeeze onto a disc depends upon YOUR interpretation of what is acceptable quality and the equipment being used to view the output.

It is generally accepted that 1 hour on a single layer 4.3 GB DVD disc is High Quality. You can put 2 hours onto the same type of disc in Good quality.
You could place 3 hours onto a DVD disc and still obtain a reasonable quality.
Anything beyond that and I think you're pushing the boat out into deep water.

If you view the output on a portable 14" Television you will still see a very good picture. If however you play that same disc onto one of those 48" Monsters that are now gaining in popularity you will see all sorts of distortion.

Although I haven't got one of those Giant TV screens two of my sons do and I have noticed that even on 'live digital TV broadcasts' the TV station Logo on many of the channels is all blurred and distorted. My one son has Satellite, the other cable.

For a guide about what bit rate settings to use please view

Sound out of sync within 1 disc

Hi,

I've converted an old VHS camcorder movie (90 mins) to AVI using my camcorder. It's all imported into VS10+, and the sound is fine in all clips in the library. However, when I render it, the sound gets out of sync half way through.
