Using VS9, I still cannot render or burn(obviously) a project, it just grinds to a halt rendering after about 28%. Starts of fine and quick then slows progressively. Perhaps I have something set wrong. Is there someone that can answer the fowing:-
1) Under media type should it be Mpeg2 or Pal VCD
2) Frame rate 25 FPS
3) In Video Settings should it be Variable 8000 or Constant
4) In Preferences the working folder is shown as C:\Documents and settings etc. when Ulead is actually in E: (160 GB empty second drive) whereas C: has only 15 gb free.
The video project is 35 minutes long 60% Movies clips 40% images.
I would have given up long ago but I don't think there is a better programme than UVS. I tried Nero but that cannot even fade in - fade out music???? And yes I have cleaned that out properly.

This could be your problem here. Although you say 15 gig free it may not be contiguous and VS is running out of space.
Change the working folder to another drive that has more space and see how that goes.
Remember that if or when you get to burning there is a separate setting for the working folder for the Burning module.
Make sure you are following exactly the recommended procedure at the top of this board.

Your Question 1 is not consistant - are you trying to burn a DVD or a VCD, if you are burning a DVD then the choices could be mpeg2 or DVD - I prefer to use the DVD setting. If you are burning a VCD then your choices are mpeg1 or VCD - and again I would use VCD.
You set the the working folder - change it yourself in 'Preferences' to the location where you have most space, VideoStudio needs room to work - you need more than just the file size. take note of lances comment re the burning module.
The frame rate of 25 fps is correct for the UK - providing you are using a PAL camcorder (This will be so if you purchased the camcorder from a reputable dealer in the UK).

I would add that your temp folders should be on a different drive than your OS. Also, set your swap file on a different drive and make it at least twice your RAM, and set it so it doesn't change size. Having to dynamically resize itself while you work makes your processor and hard drive work harder.
