VideoStudio 10 Plus keeps crashing
I have VideoStudio 10 Plus, and so far I love it.
Except... When I try to trim clips from anything more than 30 minutes long, it locks up in the multi-trim window at 1 minute, then crashes.
Every. Single. Time.
I've tried rebooting. I've tried moving the jog-bar at a snail's pace. I've even downloaded and installed the SP for ver 10.
Nothing.
This doesn't do me a whole lot of good, when I need to grab a clip from somewhere in the middle.
Any ideas what could be causing this? I looked through the forum and saw nothing. I even checked the KB and nothing.

*facepalms* Oh! You mean like, the really -basic- stuff?Ken Berry wrote:Before even hazarding a guess, we need to know what format your captured files are in and exactly how you captured them. We also need to know something about your computer set-up and what operating system you have on it.
My apologies, I should have remembered to list that. I'd made the post at the end of a very long shift.
My OS is Windows XP with 3/4 G RAM and the processor is 1.3 Mhz.
All the files I'm using are .avi, and they were copied from a friend's collection. I've had these files for a very long time, and had no problem running the long one through the multi-trim before I upgraded (I was originally using v.
My hobby is making AMVs, if that makes any difference. Although it might. I tend to take full advantage of the overlay tracks and other SFX available to put together some fairly complex sequences.
I did come up with a work-around of sorts. I was able to split the large file up by scene, save the VSP to a separate file, and I can toggle between projects to copy-paste a clip I need. This does have one nifty advantage, in that I no longer need to manually scan through the entire file to find what usually ends up being no more than 2 seconds worth of footage. But I would still like to resolve whatever was making it crash in the first place.
Does that help?

My new Ulead VS 10 Plus keeps crashing before I've had time to do anything. I seem to remember having exactly the same prob with VS9. I would load the software, work for about 3 minutes, then the hard drive would start chunnering the the "VS9 has caused a problem and will be closed" message came up. However after restarting it, I could work for hours. In fact, even when the error message came up, I could ignore it and still work, although couldn't get rid of the error box.
Now VS10 is doing exactly the same thing, have just installed it out of thebox. I haven't really had a chance to test if it will carry on working properly after restarting it, but every time I come to my system cold and run VS10 for the first time, it does this crash after a few minutes.
I am running AMD Athlon XP 2600, 2.13 GHZ with 512MB of Ram. Oh, and the video I am working with is raw DV avi, captured from Canon DV camcorder.
Thanks

Bump
Well, I am managing to work on my project, but every ten minutes or so, when I am doing some editing on a clip, the hard drive chunners away and Videostudio 10 crashes - I can carry on working if I ignore the error message, but the error message is there - at least I can save then restart VS10
I can get by doing this, but with a deadline to meet for this project it is quite annoying and something is obviously wrong.
I wish you could copy the text out of the error reports as this might be useful!
Here is a screenshot of the beginning of it at least:

Is your windows system fully patched up? I ask because your windows NT build is 5.1 2600 which is XP but it usually suffixed with SP2. It may be the error reporting is just not providing it.
Also, do you have SP1 of VS10 installed?

Thanks, yeah, got XP fully SP2'd! I'll give the VS10 SP1 a whirl, although I didn't seem to have a problem with any of the listed bugs it fixes.GuyL wrote:Is your windows system fully patched up? Strangely, after my post I got a good few hours out of it without a crash. I'll try to notice if it's something particular I'm doing, but normally it's just working with a clip, changing the mark-in, or whatever.
I'll post up if the SP1 fixes it
I was having this exact problem, and this article from Ulead's knowledge base now seems to have fixed it:
http://www.explorecommerce.com/members/ ... 1&ID=10015. In conjunction with this, make sure that you have enough space on the drive where the paging/swap file is located.

Thanks - I will give it a go with SP1 installed, if I still get the crash, I will try this, then we should know the answergordonwd wrote:I was having this exact problem, and this article from Ulead's knowledge base now seems to have fixed it:

End of the day for me now though
Thanks for the help

I have the same problem as described in this topic.
Unfortunately does adjusting the pagefile not fix the crash. When I'm editing or trimming captured DV clips, UV10 suddenly stops working. It always fails on "vstudio.exe" and "ntdll.dll" I hope there will be soon a hotfix for it, because it gets frustrating. Are there any more solutions?
Note: In the past UVS 8 worked briljant to me.
My specs:
Pentium IV 2.53
Kingston 1024 mem/WD 160 gb ATA/ATI Radeon 9250/Windows XP SP 2
Latest DirectX 9.0c (release. oct/nov 2006)
Ulead VideoStudio 10+/all updates from ulead.com are installed

Also, before you decide that this is a Video studio problem, make sure that your hard drive/s is/are defragmented and run the XP Error Check tool on the drive/s. You need to be sure that the problem does not lie with your hardware.
Make sure that you have enough drive space, and that there is sufficient space in your working folders, accessed thru file>>preferences
Check the contents of the various Event Viewer logs. These can sometimes give you a clue as to what is going wrong.
