VS10 - Flicker on background photo on DVD menu
When creating a DVD menu using one of my own background images; when it is viewed on the TV the image appears to flicker. I am using anti-flicker when creating the final DVD and all photos contained within the movies are fine. It is just on the menu. VS9 was fine but when I upgraded to 10 it started happening. I have searched all settings and cannot see any extra ones for the DVD menu. Anyone have any ideas.
There is a setting in the burning page (completely below left) where you have a tab Preferences; in this dialog, the General tab sould show anti-flicker crossbox. Check that it is ON. In the Advanced tab you should also have Use PAL/NTSC safe colors.
Other than that it should be OK but remember your picture will be compressed. So try to use one with the correct size (720x576 or 480)
and avoid sharp lines and single points (like one line-wide text).
This when compressed will give once some color the next frame some other (here in Europe we say that it's the way NTSC works but never mind)..
For instance something with thin lines (a map) will give trouble to even the best encoders. I supersize my backgrounds 2x or 3x with dithering, then sharp lines disappear and the encoder has it easier.
A softened image without large contrasts works best.

Please do not confuse the VideoStudio Anti-flicker and Safe Colors settings, found in File/Preferences, and those in the burning page preferences where you are in effect no more in Videostudio but a module of DVD Movie Factory 5, with it's own settings.
In this machine for instance, that I use only for reference, and where VideoStudio was installed but never used, the default settings DO differ: PAL safe On in Project preferences, Off in Create Disc module.
