I can confirm that it works on mine, as well. I created a 39 minute movie from various MPG clips. Used SmartSounds audio, many transitions and titles, sound effects and marked all my chapters on the timeline during editing. Opened the project in the burn module, chose my menu template, all my chapters appeared, made the edits to the template I wanted, burned it and it came out perfect. As stated, the first chapter is always the beginning of the movie and does not need to be marked.

Yes I do agree, the SP1 addressed the DVD Chapter issue..GeorgeW wrote: So do you agree that SP1 does address the DVD Chapter issue
At least it appears to be working on two machines here, and your machine...
Not sure about daniel's, or even Steve's (since he only re-posted a link to a thread that came out prior to the SP1).

I did it again right now, with MPG only and the chapters are not imported in VS10+ I can't discuss about DVDMF4 because it's uninstalled in this machine.GeorgeW wrote: Not sure about daniel's, or even Steve's (since he only re-posted a link to a thread that came out prior to the SP1).

I checked that the VS10 version is indeed ending with 2.
The project was made from the three Ulead-supplied background videos V01, V02, V03. (Remember this is a test install here, no real video to feed). Each is set at 25% playing speed thus a total play of 1:48 min.
I place two chapters, guess where? And make an MPG file.
If I go to create disc and load the MPG the chapters are not there.
(If I reload the VSP the chapters are well present.)
I can send the VSP file to someone if desired.
This being said I don't care since I don't intend to define chapters in the editing step...

I hope I didn't give the impression that chapters are saved with the output MPEG. Chapter markers are saved within the VS project file. If you use them, you have to load the project file within the burn module to see them. Saving them in the MPEG file would serve no real purpose since MPEG is a wide-use format not specific to just DVD playback. Software MPEG players like Media Player would ignore them in an MPEG file and they have to be part of the VOB output for a DVD player to recognize them. Sorry for any confusion.daniel wrote:GeorgeW wrote: I did it again right now, with MPG only and the chapters are not imported in VS10+ I can't discuss about DVDMF4 because it's uninstalled in this machine.

Yes they are saved in the output MPEG file. However I agree that other players, such as WMP will not see or ignore them. What does matter and make a difference is that Ulead's DVD authoring applications do see and use them. I did not load the VSP file in the timeline. After creating the MPEG2 video file having the chapter marks, I started with a clean timeline, went directly to Share>Create Disc. Then loaded the MPEG2 file. Then when I selected Add Chapters, Insert Scenes, the added scenes were the chapter marks I set in the editor...CycleWriter wrote:daniel wrote:I hope I didn't give the impression that chapters are saved with the output MPEG. Regarding where the chapters are saved, I believe they are stored in the file with the same name, but with the UPD file extension (i.e. not in the actual mpeg file).
@daniel,
I just created a test using the same 3 files you used, and changed their playback speed to 25%. I just added 3 chapters, and output using a standard DVD Template (for me I used the NTSC DVD (4:3). Then closed/reopened VS10+, and the DVD Authoring module recognized the chapter marks.
I also did this for a PAL DVD mpeg, and it also worked.
How are you creating your mpeg file, and what are the properties you are using? Also, do you see a file with the same name as the mpeg, but with the UPD file extension?
And when you say you have a "test install", does that mean you are running a trial version of the software (I wasn't aware that the update patch would apply to the Trial, but that's cool if it does), or does "Test Install" mean you are just creating a test case for the DVD Chapter marks

Hi George,
I plainly created the MPEG with one of the built-in templates, probably PAL DVD 4:3 (I know the original files are NTSC). Something readily available.
Yes the UPD is there along with the MPG and the VSP, all in c:\program files\ulead systems where it went by default.
By test install I mean this machine is not used for video editing, just to test things when I'm on-line and so contains only the original data supplied by Ulead, hence the use of short clips slowed down because that's what I found in the Video library.
It was just to avoid remarks like could you try with a 15-min plus movie etc...
Frankly, that's just reporting what happens here, I couldn't care less that it works or not, since I only use VS or DVDMF to make video-checking discs (no sublevels in authoring, and DVDWS too expensive while low-cost competitors offer unlimited menu levels).

This my understanding of it.
I have been proven wrong on several occasions in my life. It's not going to improve.
