music in VS10

I am wondering if anyone knows how to sync background music with a slide show using VS10. I have other programs that sync to the slide show. Do you just have to find music that is the same length? I read about stretching the music but this won't solve the problem. Perhaps I will need to mix my music in a separate program and then add it. VS is new to me.
