please help - reinstalling vs9 - need to save my projects
Having to reinstall vs9, and have projects that i want to make sure are saved so they wont be delted when i reinstall.
Also i have a lot of thumbnails ( which ive never saved to a folder..just let Ulead sort out by default once i captured..so they appear everytime i open vs9...now this doesnt bother me..however obviously reinstalling vs9 i still want to keep them..How? Click on them and copy n paste elsewhere? to drive c?
Thanks

The whole definition of your projects is the the *.VSP files.
Since you define where they go on the first save as.. you shouldn't have trouble finding them all.
About the library thumbnails someone will answer you because I know it was already posted here (can't remember where). You need to copy thezm to a safe place and bring them back.
Maybe it's easier to start again with what you really need though, remember loading all those nice thumbnails eats memory and also slows down the startup phase of VS.

The thumbnails in your library are not your captured video files! They are just representations of them. You can right click to delete those thumbnails to your hearts content but those video files will remain on your HD (unless you Shift+right click, then you will be prompted to also remove the files). Those captured video files are in the folder you specified on the Capture tab>Capture Folder.

All that is right Black Lab, but the OP was concerned that after a reinstall all these pointers are lost, and he wants to get them back.
It's the same for all the custom libraries, only the default Pictures and Videos will be installed, and with only Ulead's items in it.
And when I talk about memory and load time, I was effectively speaking about the thumbnails themselves, the tiny image and it's associated data (path, start and end frames etc, filters, corrections position etc).

Then all you have to do after the reinstall is click on the Load Video button, find your clips (where they were captured to on the HD), choose them with basic Windows commands (i.e. Shift+click for all) and your thumbnails will reappear in your library. AFAIK there is no way to copy your thumbnails to somewhere else on your computer. The thumbnail's copy/paste function only works in VS.

Hi
Your library files are saved here
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\9.0
They are named :-
VS_Video.dat
VS_Title.dat
VS_Image.dat
And so on¡K¡K..
Copy these to a safe place on your hard drive, away from the ulead folders.
After installing VS9
Replace these folders.

Jeff,
Trevor has solved Lakewud's question completely, but I wish to add that there's much more to a library pointer than just the file's location.
When you have a file split into scenes it holds the start and end position, when a picture or a video has been copied to the library with corrections, filters and positionning, that info is stored etc.
Just re-pointing to the file(s) will not get you that back.
For titles, theres' simply no way to get them back etc...

I interpreted the OPs question as if he were talking about his captured clips. If you edit a clip and use Save Trimmed Video it will save the new clip to the same place from which the unedited one came from. So my method would still work, although I will admit, Trevor's is a simpler and a more complete way of doing it.When you have a file split into scenes it holds the start and end position, when a picture or a video has been copied to the library with corrections, filters and positionning, that info is stored etc.

Oh yes there is....If you have saved/copied the titles to the library and wish to save them(after re-install):-For titles, theres' simply no way to get them back etc...
either
1 / copy the title folder VS_Title.dat
2 / drag all titles to the timeline and save project as 'my titles.vsp'
Trevor
I did not make myself clear, I was meaning no way with Jeff's suggestion to point to the original file, since for titles there isn't any.trevor andrew wrote:daniel wrote: Daniel I think i understand what you mean

But the solution of transiting via a VSP I didn't think of that....

Hi g
There is a lot of info in the above posts regarding saving projects and library files.
Can be confusing.
Why do you feel you need to re-install Video Studio 9 ?
As you haven¡¦t created separate library pages, suspects me into thinking that you are using the same ¡¥default¡¦ working folder for your capture as well.
A normal re-install should do no harm.
But if you are intending a ¡¥clean install¡¦ then be careful of the files you delete.

Yeah, that and also that we old DOS users don't think in terms of drag-and-drop but more on Ctrl-C Ctrl-Vtrevor andrew wrote:Well,.... when you get on in years the grey matter does slow a bit.........daniel wrote: But the solution of transiting via a VSP I didn't think of that....
HEY by the way, is there any other method, when you define new libraries and you split your thumbnails among them, than to copy/paste? Didn't find one.

Thank you for all your replies. Luckily, having repaired vs9 for a 2nd time...it allows me to burn again..so fingers crossed for now this keeps up until i am ready to complete my current project.
Have to say, im still in the dark regarding saving my projects and those clips despite all your answers...I mean, Im a newbie to all this...so where in gowd's name would you find the likes of vs_ etc etc.. it might seems straighforward to you lot...but certainly not to me...
Still for the time being im not worried about this. Reason felt had to reinstall is after having downloaded various other ulead packages ( to help my project - all theyve done really thou is hinder it...STILL unable to get widescreen, still unable to get that cat into a circle..again despite all the instructions given on here.....so best to just keep it simple for now anyway. )
Thanks again.
