Out of focus & dark pictures PE 5 SE

I am new to this. My pictures are blurry and usually so dark it is hard to see the images. Also my date keeps going back to 1970. I don't seem to be adjusting too well to my Digital Video Camcorder. Any suggestions?

I have a Medion digital camera and many images turn out purple and very dark, could that be a similar problem?
