Overlay Track Manager icon missing

Post by desilew »

I am having problems locating the Overlay Track Manager icon that sits above the timeline. What am I doing wrong. I have read the manual but the things that it references I don't seem to have. I am using VS10 with the update patch.

Thanks

The overlay chapter begins in the Manual at page 86. But it is important also to look at the digaram on p.34. To see that diagram in effect in Video Studio 10, you have to be on any tab except Capture. But the Overlay Track Manager will remain greyed out if you are in Storyboard mode (button 1 in that diagram) or Audio mode (button 3. Instead, you have to go into Timeline view (button 2), and the Overlay Track Manager (button 11) should now be visible. Then go to p.87 for instructions on how to use it.

Thanks, but all I have for icons based on p 34 in the manual are icon 1-8 and 10. I don't have 9, 11 or 12 nor do I have option in any menus to go to the Overlay Manager.

In addition I was doing the tutorial "Decoration" when I found out I could follow all the steps.

I suddenly realise - DUH! - that you must be using VS10 and not VS10+. If so, your version 10 does not contain the multiple overlay tracks (only main video, one overlay and one title track), nor Dolby surround (button 12). Nor can it do HD editing with Smart Proxy (button 9). Sorry. The manual appears geared for VS10+, rather than VS10 -- though why Ulead could not have brought out a Manual specifically for the latter, I don't know.

Overlay Track Manager

I should really know better but I read the comparison chart a month ago when I bought the program. Anyway like the Fram Oil Filter Man would say "You can pay me now or pay me later", I have just upgraded to the VS10+ version.

If you are thinking of getting into fancier effects, the main thing you are missing is in fact the 6 overlay tracks, which allow for quite a range of sophisticated and creative effects... Otherwise, if you mainly use the program for quick editing of your home videos done on a standard digital video camera, then you probably are not missing all that much.

Interestingly I looked at the Upgrade page to see if unsuspecting customers who bought the wrong version qualify for the upgrade price.
This is what is published.

Owners of the Ulead® VideoStudio® versions listed below are eligible for Ulead VideoStudio 10 Plus upgrade:
  • Ulead VideoStudio 6 Retail/Upgrade/SE/SE DVD /SE VCD/SE Basic
  • Ulead VideoStudio 7 Retail/Upgrade/ESD/SE/SE DVD /SE VCD/SE Basic
  • Ulead VideoStudio 8 Retail/Upgrade/ESD/SE/SE DVD /SE VCD/SE Basic
  • Ulead VideoStudio 9 Retail/Upgrade/ESD/SE/SE DVD/SE Basic
  • Ulead MovieWizard 1.0
  • Ulead MovieWizard 2.0 DVD
  • Ulead Video ToolBox 2.0 Full/HE/ME

Anyone notice something obvious missing?

Do they not consider 10 to 10+ and upgrade? There are definite differences between the two.
